Organizational Setting

The Director General's Office for Coordination (DGOC) provides leadership and coordination for all IAEA activities at the executive level for meeting Member States' needs, and achieving a one-house approach and a results-based management.


The Office for Public Information and Communication provides objective, accurate and timely information about the IAEA and nuclear developments that fosters public understanding of the IAEA's global roles. It also provides advice to the Director General on relations with the media and organizes press briefings. The Office coordinates the communication activities for the rest of the house and assists in the media aspects of major IAEA events and conferences.


The Web, Digital Media and Public Information Materials Section has corporate responsibility for the editorial management, creation and development of information products with a particular focus on the web, digital media, internal communications and cross-departmental promotional material.


Main Purpose

The Agency has a unique responsibility to disseminate accurate and objective information on its activities and the results of its work. This post contributes to making such information available in all UN languages via the web site and social media channels. Target audiences include the interested general public, as well as journalists, nuclear communicators, public information professionals in non-governmental and inter-governmental organizations, and governmental officials in Member States.

The Associate Public Information Officer (Multilingualism) provides cross-sectional technical input for the IAEA's multilingual communications, including (i) identification of relevant content by targeted language groups/regions for media, web and social media communications, (ii) research and establishment of relevant media, on-line platforms and influencers per language group/regions, with a view to increase the visibility of IAEA activities in all UN languages.


Role

In his/her role, the Associate Public Information Officer(Multilingualism) will\:

- advise on the selection of the most relevant OPIC and Departmental content for each of the UN languages other than English, based on regional/language audiences and news trends and organises the relevant translations;
- select and creates social media content targeting specific regional/language audiences based on news trends and specific regional/UN language interests other than English;
- oversee the multilingual pages of IAEA.org and plans content translation and posting;
- identify web and social media amplifiers and influencers, NGOs and institutional in UN languages other than English and coordinates communication with them on the promotion of IAEA content.


Functions / Key Results Expected

Identify and select news items, feature stories, press releases and videos for translation.
Edit landing pages of the web site to make them more targeted to each language community (localization).
Liaise with translators to ensure high quality translation and timely delivery.
Analyse traffic trends and identify potential partners for web content promotion and distribution and build partnerships with them.
Publish content and facilitate discussions on social media platforms.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

Bachelor's Degree - University degree in translation/communications/marketing or a related field.

At least two years of experience in public affairs, translation or a related field.
Excellent command of English, and translator-level expertise in at least one more UN language.
Knowledge of news trend per region and relevant news outlets and online communication platforms in these languages.

Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.


Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $47322 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 19639, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance
