IMPACT Initiatives in Ukraine is looking for a Communications Officer joining the team in Kyiv. They will be responsible for creating communication content in English/Ukrainian about IMPACT/REACH-led assessment activities, in cooperation with IMPACT/REACH Reporting and Communications team and assessment officers in Ukraine. They will have the opportunity to work across all IMPACT/REACH programs and thematic focuses, including its humanitarian-focused portfolio, environment/disaster risk reduction portfolio, socio-economic portfolio, and support to local governments and decision-makers.

Chain of Command

Under the authority of: Reporting & Communications Manager with input and support from Unit Managers and Assessment Officers, IMPACT Senior Translation & Reporting Officer, IMPACT Country Representative

Working Relations

Internal Relations: IMPACT/REACH Assessment Officers, IMPACT/REACH Data Officers, IMPACT/REACH GIS Officers, IMPACT/REACH Unit Managers, ACTED FLAT, communication and HR Department[s]

External Relations: Local Authorities, Local / International NGOs

FUNCTIONS

The Communications Officer will be responsible for the following tasks:

1. Product dissemination activities:

  • Collaborates with IMPACT Assessment Officers and Research Managers to collect information for internal digest on monthly basis.
  • Collaborates with IMPACT Consortium Liaison Officer on information digest to keep Consortium informed about and disseminate REACH/IMPACT information products on biweekly basis.
  • Collaborates with IMPACT Assessment Officers to disseminate information about research key takeaways and messages through dissemination list.
  • Ensures of quality management and review of other Ukrainian and Russian-language public-facing products produced by Assessment Officers.
  • Stays informed on IMPACT activities and programming and maintains the dissemination/subscription lists.
  • Contributes to the dissemination of IMPACT information products as per request.

2. Content creation activities:

  • Provision of creative support for internal and external communication efforts including print publications, email communication, community engagement, media and video production.
  • Drafting articles to create high-quality publications based on reports, factsheets, situation overviews, and other formal outputs produced by IMPACT.
  • Support of the IMPACT/REACH Reporting and Communications Team in creating outreach materials for the website, social media, etc. as per request.
  • Documenting, editing, and contribution to the dissemination of success stories and human-interest stories in written, audio and video formats which are related to the specific interventions and results of the IMPACT. Support measures to promote visibility of the IMPACT’s work to achieve multiplier effects through communication.

3. Collection and update of IMPACT’s photobank:

  • Keeps the photobank updated and relevant
  • Ensures that photos are compliant with IMPACT policies on the photo/ video
  • Is able to travel to take photos and draft stories.

4. Collection and analysis of metrics:

  • Keeps the dissemination tracker functional.
  • Collects and analyzes of metrics on platforms used by IMPACT for dissemination (platforms & viewership on those platforms for M&E purposes).
  • Maintains and improves the IMPACT tracking system for campaign analytics and maintaining digital media archives.
  • Implements the best practices of common social media platforms.
  • Prepares reports, communication materials and presentations.

5. Confidentiality and Data Protection

  • The IMPACT Communication Officer will maintain the strictest confidentiality of data and processes. He/she will actively take measures to prevent the unauthorized sharing of information and data.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required and necessary within the area of responsibility.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Journalism, Linguistics or any relevant discipline;

Technical requirements:

  • Full working proficiency in English (at least a C1 command), Ukrainian, and Russian required;
  • Previous experience working as a journalist or communication officer is required;
  • Previous experience working in humanitarian, development, or environmental fields is desirable;
  • Previous experience writing, copyediting, drafting high-quality analytical products in Ukrainian and Russian documents;
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office suite including Excel and Power Point skills
  • Desirable technical qualifications:
  • Knowledge of report production software (i.e. InDesign, Illustrator) is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of computer-assisted translation software is an asset.
