Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position.

Context:

The Needs and Population Monitoring (NPM) is a set of tools and methods that IOM uses to track and assess affected population for the purpose of providing assistance. IOM is implementing the NPM to regularly collect and verify population groups at the smallest location level, and to provide UN Clusters and other partners with baseline information and indicators to address priority needs, and the types of required humanitarian interventions. Under the overall supervision of the Head of Sub Office and direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator, the Associate Reporting Officer will be responsible for carrying out preliminary research and analysis, and drafting sections of required reports. Core Functions / Responsibilities:

1. Research information, data and various reports prepared by OCHA, Clusters and other relevant humanitarian partners inside Syria, and prepare preliminary analyses related to developments inside Syria as they relate to the NPM initiative.

2. Collect, compile and provide necessary information and inputs to be used by the Reporting Officer in drafting and producing NPM reports. Provide technical input for the development of other relevant NPM tools such as thematic surveys, alerts, governorate updates, etc. 3. Based on instructions, prepare infographics, graphs, maps and tables to be included in NPM Page 1 / 3reports.

4. Update tracking databases and provide straightforward information related to queries from relevant internal and external staff.

5. Perform such other duties as may be required.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

• Master’s degree in International Relations, International Development, Research or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or

• University degree in the above fields with two years of relevant professional experience. Experience

• Familiar with Needs and Population Monitoring (NPM) similar initiatives such as displacement tracking and needs assessment programmes;

• Good understanding of the situation in Syria;

• Excellent level of computer literacy, knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly word and excel. Languages

Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage. Desirable Competencies:
