DDG Deputy Team Leader - Demining

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an International non-governmental organization, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world. The Danish Demining Group (DDG) is the mine action and armed violence reduction unit within DRC and focuses on freeing communities from the fear of mines, explosive remnants of war and armed violence. 

DDG is looking for a DDG Deputy Team Leader - Demining to support ongoing humanitarian mine clearance projects in eastern Ukraine.

Responsibilities:

  • Shall ensure that their clearance equipment is in good working order prior to leaving the Control Point.
  • Taking measures to eliminate mine risk: visual assessment of areas of former hostilities, cleaning with metal detectors, search for stretch marks using fillers or manually.
  • Shall conduct their work in a safe manner and according to the DDG SOPs
  • Shall be directly responsible and accountable for their issued equipment at all times.
  • Shall report any malfunctions or damage to equipment to the TL immediately.
  • Shall participate in training as instructed by the DS.
  • Shall carry out other tasks as dictated by changing circumstances or as required by the TL.
  • The Deminer/DTL (Deputy team leader), will receive Team Leader/Management training, and will assume the roles and responsibilities of the Team Leader at times when the TL is absent or an operational situation requires additional supervision.
  • Reports directly to the DDG Demining Supervisor, daily tasks can be supervised by DDG TL (during the performance of the duties of a TL)
  • Shall obey the commands of T/L or DDG Demining Supervisor 
  • Shall ensure he/she is fully conversant and understands all DDG SOPs
  • Shall ensure he/she applies all DDG SOPs throughout the course of his/her duties
  • Shall ensure he/she is correctly wearing the appropriate PPE at all times
  • Shall ensure accountability of his/her demining equipment, is maintained and functioning correctly and to report any malfunctions immediately
  • Shall participate in all relevant DDG mine action training as deemed necessary
  • Shall carry out any other humanitarian mine action related tasks as deemed necessary by the T/L or DDG Demining Supervisor

Experience and competencies:

  • Experience in humanitarian demining for at least 1 year.
  • PC Possession: Basic information about Microsoft Office packages (with focus on Excel and Word).
  • Secondary education
  • Written and spoken Russian and Ukrainian language
  • Knowledge of English is encouraged

We offer

Contract length: 3 months probationary period, followed by 1-year contract dependant on satisfactory performance with the possibility of extension based on available funding.

Level: I 

Start date: 1st of April, 2021
