Organizational Setting and Work Relationships
The Protection Assistant normally reports to a more senior Protection colleague.  The incumbent provides functional and administrative support to the protection unit on protection related liaison, correspondence, monitoring, case management and reporting activities.  

The Protection Assistant also supports the protection unit in designing a comprehensive protection strategy and in providing quality, timely and effective protection responses to persons of concern (PoC). S/he may liaise externally with local authorities and partners on correspondence and/or protection issues as guided by the supervisor.

The Protection Assistant also facilitates the involvement of PoC in making decisions that affect them, whether in accessing their rights or in identifying appropriate solutions to their problems. To achieve this, the incumbent will need to build and maintain effective interfaces with communities of concern, local authorities and protection and assistance partners.  

All UNHCR staff members are accountable to perform their duties as reflected in their job description. Duties
- Consistently apply International and National Law and applicable UN/UNHCR and IASC policy, standards and codes of conduct.
- Observe and respect protection related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Provide functional and administrative support in all protection related AGD based programming with implementing and operational partners.
- Provide functional and administrative support in implementing participatory approaches, needs assessments, monitoring, reporting and case management. 
- Support assessments on durable solutions through voluntary repatriation, local integration and where appropriate, resettlement.
- Facilitate liaison with competent authorities for the issuance of personal and other relevant documents.
- Assist in drafting reports, routine correspondence, updating relevant databases and compiling statistics within the Area of Responsibility (AoR).
- Select PoC for preliminary interviews and decide which relevant information to share.
- Enforce integrity in the delivery of protection services by local implementing partners.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Language Requirements .

REMUNERATION

A competitive compensation and benefits package is offered. The monthly net salary is between TRY 5,534 and TRY 6,953 depending on relevant experience, dependency status and language proficiency. I.Nature of the Position

The applicant should bear in mind that the Ankara Field Unit (AFU) covers 50 provinces and serves more than 1 million refugees. This large area and large group of refugees needs a large and effective communication network which should also include refugees in itself.
The differences in different areas need routine care and attention to the developments in the AFU area of responsibility (AOR) which makes the local press reviews, contacts with local institutions (such as muhtars, charities, imams, NGOs) is an important part of the tasks of the position.
Consequently, this position will offer many travelling opportunities in Turkey.
This position will be dealing with a lot of local institutions and persons (including refugees) and the work atmosphere may be stressful at times. The incumbent will need to be patient, practical and managing stressful situations with different stake holders.

II. Interaction with Persons of Concern or External Stakeholders

In addition, the position will also be taking care of contacting refugees in groups and/or individually to identify their problems and organize the refugee community to promote local solutions with the participation of  refugees in AFU AOR. The refugees will be encouraged to get organized in a manner to establish themselves an income generating activity with dignity and well-reception by the host community.This organizational activity may vary from refugee representatives to refugee cooperatives, including refuge volunteers.

III. Reporting and Managerial Expectations

This position will not supervise any UNHCR personnel but will monitor and supervise many activities in the field which AFU will be conducting in partnership with local & small scale NGOs, charities and government institutions (SASFs, municipalities, etc.). Written reporting is the key skills for the position. Position holder will be expected to to write a report for every activity performed. Accordingly, properly developed drafting skills are very important for this position.

IV. Additional Languages, Skills and Qualifications

The working language is English but Turkish is a very considerable extra asset to be able to perform tasks of this position. Languages of Arabic and Farsi are extra skills which will help the incumbent. The closing date of the Job opening is 20 August 2020.
