1.      Organizational Context

  1. Organizational Setting 

    The post is located in the Marketing and Customer Service Division, Office of the Director General and Related Programs.  The Division is responsible for creating and delivering clear, consistent, innovative and engaging marketing and customer service activities to promote understanding of intellectual property and of WIPO’s work.

      

  2. Purpose Statement 

    Stakeholders’ experience of the WIPO brand, expressed through all WIPO programs, services and activities, is the foundation of WIPO’s global image and reputation.  The incumbent is a brand development expert who will continue developing WIPO’s brand promise and its expression in order to ensure positive resonance with all stakeholders.  The incumbent will refine WIPO’s brand position and overarching brand narrative to substantively contribute to the enhancement of WIPO’s reputation and reinforcement of WIPO’s leadership position in the domain of global IP.  In consultation with internal colleagues and key stakeholders and through the use of research and analytics, the incumbent will develop and roll out a robust, organization-wide brand platform and plan.  The plan will inform all expressions of the brand including brand positioning; overarching narrative and key messages; visual “language” and design; engagement on all channels and platforms; events; promotions; campaigns and more. 

  3. Reporting Lines

    The incumbent works under the supervision of the Director, Marketing and Customer Services Division. 

  4. Work Relations

    The incumbent will partner closely with internal colleagues throughout the Organization to foster adoption of and alignment with the brand platform

     

2.      Duties and Responsibilities

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:

  • Research and analyze internal and external stakeholder feedback to inform the continuing evolution of the WIPO brand promise and its expression.

  • Refine and develop the Organization-wide brand platform, including an integrated brand position and promise for key pillars of WIPO’s work, overarching narrative and key messages for WIPO’s work, visual identity and visual language, etc. in collaboration with key internal stakeholders.

  • Create and ensure an on-going and inclusive brand alignment process, systems and resources that enable and inspire creative, on-brand ideas and activities by internal constituents and external partners and stakeholders. 

  • Work closely with internal constituents to incorporate key brand elements in their major programs, campaigns and activities and ensure adoption throughout the Organization.

  • Develop and implement context-appropriate branding campaigns to raise awareness of WIPO in key markets and audience segments.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

     

3.      Requirements

Education

 

Essential

Advanced university degree in marketing, communications, management and administration, international relations or related field.  A first-level university degree plus an additional two years of relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.  

Desirable

Certification or advanced university degree in market research, marketing analytics, customer experience design, design-centered thinking.  

Experience

Essential

At least ten years of experience in brand management, marketing or communications. 

Desirable

Experience working in UN, inter-governmental, or non-profit organization.

  

Language 

Essential

Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. 

Desirable

Knowledge of other UN official languages.

5.        Information

  

Mobility:  WIPO staff members are international civil servants subject to the authority of the Director General and may be assigned to any activities, office or duty station of the Organization.  Accordingly, the selected candidate may be required to move from time to time to new functions and/or to another duty station.

  

Annual salary:

 

Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment.  Please note that this estimate is for information only.  The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice.  The figures quoted below are based on the January 2020 rate of 77.4%

Salaries and allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations.

Additional Information

  

Initial period of two years, renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.  No fixed-term appointment or any extension hereof shall carry with it any expectancy of, nor imply any right to, (further) extensions or conversion to a permanent appointment.
