Food Security Field Supervisor (m/f/d) - National position

Malteser International is planning to scale up its intervention at Juba, South Sudan. As a part of this process the organisation has submitted a new project proposal to a prospective donor. The initial reaction of the donor is very positive.










In support of our work in Juba, South Sudan, Malteser International is looking for a motivated Food Security Field Supervisor (m/f/d) - National position.
 
The responsibility of the Food Security Field Supervisor is to setup, implementation and coordination of the integrated project for improvement of food and nutrition security and WASH in underserved communities in peri- urban areas of Juba.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing advice and support on technical and conceptual agriculture activities
  • Conducting Training for community in agricultural techniques such as planting, weeding, harvesting
  • Inspect crops, field or plant stocks to determine their condition and safe machinery for operation
  • Setup the demonstration plot for the farmer groups and the installation of school gardens
  • Responsible for the School gardens activities
  • Distribution of the agricultural items and the fishing kit to the farmers and to the schools
  • Undertaking investigative surveys of water quality and the health, spawning and movement of fish in rivers, lakes or fishponds if any
  • Policing waterways to check for unlawful fishing
  • Handling general enquiries from the public and providing advice about the location of fish stock in the rivers and lakes
  • Monitoring and observe community to detect inefficient or unsafe work procedures to identify problems, initiating corrective action as necessary
  • Preparing monthly report regarding farms condition, crop yield, machinery breakdown, labor problems
  • Conduct training in basing method of fishing, agricultural marketing products and vegetable conservation approaches
  • Carry out (participate) in baseline assessments and other relevant studies and contributions in monthly and or donor report as required by the grant
  • Working in collaboration with other organizations and agencies

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in agricultural science or related fields; A Master degree in the same domain would be an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience in supporting agricultural (market) development and development of agricultural services; (Knowledge and experience in fishery would be an asset)
  • Experience in the provision of advice and/or coaching for agricultural businesses and associations
  • Experience with the community mobilization and capacity building approaches
  • Working experience in the Green belt region for NGOs would be an asset
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Excellent written and spoken English; local Arabic would be an added advantage

Conditions:

  • Starting date: as soon as possible (July 2019)
  • Duty station:  Juba, South Sudan
  • Salary according to qualification and experience
