Under the guidance and supervision of the Operations Assistant and the overall supervision of the Operations Analyst, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services ensuring high quality and standard services. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
The Driver provides driving and transportation services to Sub-office Aden, operations and programme staff, consultants and experts, and visiting missions.
1.) Provide reliable and secure driving services using office vehicles for Sub-office Aden to programmes and operations staff, experts and consultants, and visiting missions.
- Drive office vehicles for the transport of authorized staff.
- Deliver and collect mail, documents and other items to Government – Offices/Embassies/Commercial Establishments/ UN Offices.
- Meet official staff and visitors at the airport, including visas and customs formalities arrangements when required.
- Verify that all passengers wear seatbelts at all times in the vehicle.
- Ensure all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
- Ensure to follow and that vehicles comply with the Security Risk Management manual.
- Address safety concerns specific to women and other vulnerable groups. For instance, ensuring well-lit pickup/drop-off points and implementing emergency procedures.
- Use gender-neutral language when interacting with passengers. Avoid assumptions based on (appearance, names, marginalized, disable, race and ethnic).
- Treat all passengers equally, regardless of gender identity.
2.) Ensure cost-saving through proper use and day-to-day maintenance of the assigned office vehicle.
- Ensure cost saving by driving responsibility.
- Maintain accurate daily vehicle logs.
- Provide inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports;
- Make timely minor repairs and/or arrange for major repairs.
- Ensure timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
- Ensure that the official vehicle is kept clean and is always in good working condition.
- Prepare a checklist for items that need to be in the vehicle during field missions.
3.) Ensure availability in the assigned vehicle of all the required documents, supplies and necessary spare parts.
- Maintain and ensure availability of all required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, and map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
- Ensure that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
- Keep abreast of traffic rules and regulations as well as road security and safety awareness to enable safe arrival on time for meetings.
4.) . Provide general administrative and logistic support as needed.
- Assist office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining required records.
- Assist in the mailing and distribution of publications and payments of bills, as required.
- Support UNDP in building trust and enhance networking with other UN agencies, partners, and local authorities, through demonstrating high work ethics and values as per the UN system code of conduct.
- Closely coordinate with the security team before conducting field missions and road travels.
- Coordinate with other drivers from the UN agencies and partners during field missions and UN convoys.
- Adhere to and comply with the UNDP rules and regulations.
- Assists in logistic work process as necessary, and flexibility in working hours and over the weekend.
- Respect interactions with passengers of all genders, understand diverse needs and avoid stereotypes.

Education:
- Secondary Education with a valid driver’s license.
- A minimum of 2 years (with high school diploma) of relevant work experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required.
- A valid driving license is required.
- Defensive driving is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of protocol, driving regulations, rules and laws as well as skills in minor vehicle repair and maintenance is required.
- Experience in driving to remote and mountainous areas, districts and provinces of Yemen is an advantage.
- Good experience of driving armored vehicles is an added advantage.
- Previous working experience with a UN agency is an asset.
- Knowledge of the UN operational rules and regulations is desirable.
- Experience in emergencies and security are a definite advantage.
- Experience in driving high missions and delegates is an asset.
- Experience in the basic use of computers and relevant office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and ability to use web-based management and electronic log, file and/or scheduling systems is an advantage.
