Organizational Setting

FAO Country Offices, working under overall corporate guidance and in line with the Strategic Framework, offer policy advice and support to countries in the mandated areas of FAO, facilitated through partnerships, resources and an active country programme to provide technical assistance, develop capacities and deliver core services while fully observing international standards of accountability to establish leadership and strengthen impact at the country level.
The offices deliver on the programmatic priorities of each country as agreed in their respective Country Programming Frameworks (CPFs) aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and ensure effective and efficient operations with adequate human and financial resources.
Specifically, FAO Country Offices\:
(i) advocate, inform and support policies and investments in the areas of FAO’s mandate;
(ii) provide technical assistance and deliver core services;
(iii) assist and catalyse partnership and resource mobilization activities to support agrifood systems transformation;
(iv) position FAO as the specialized/authoritative technical agency in food and agriculture and agrifood systems transformation; and
(v) ensure risk-smart and accountable operations and management.
The position is located in the FAO Country Office in Viet Nam
Reporting Lines
The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative in Viet Nam, the direct supervision of the International Senior Technical Coordinator of Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Disease (ECTAD), and in close collaboration with FAO Viet Nam, FAO Regional Office of Asia and Pacific (RAP), FAO Head Quarters (HQ) and relevant government counterparts to contribute to the successful implementation of FAO projects in the country by undertaking the following tasks and duties\:
Technical Focus
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and Antimicrobial use (AMU)
Tasks and responsibilities
• Support and assist the Senior Technical Coordinator to deliver national ECTAD program in Viet Nam;
• Coordinating the implementation of FAO project activities in Viet Nam including activities to support government of Viet Nam on\:
- The implementation and monitoring of the national action plan on AMR and AMU
- AMR surveillance and AMR surveillance capacity development and network
- The implementation of prescription regulations and animal diseases treatment guidelines
- AMR awareness raising and community engagement
- Participation in regional and global AMR events
• Maintaining regular communication and coordination with AMR stakeholders in Viet Nam and FAO AMR team at regional and global levels;
• Develop scientific conference posters, presentations and manuscripts for publication;
• Provide technical inputs to reports, events, and support field missions;
• Facilitate and support inter-sectoral collaboration and social-behaviour change communication; and
• Perform other related duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• Advanced university degree in veterinary medicine, veterinary science, animal science or related field
• At least 7 years of relevant experience in antimicrobial resistance, including surveillance, prevention/control management and One Health approach
• Working knowledge of English
