Specifically, FAO Ghana\:
• advocate, inform and support policies and investments in the areas of FAO’s mandate;
• provide technical assistance and deliver core services;
• assist and catalyse partnership and resource mobilization activities to support agrifood systems transformation;
• position FAO as the specialized/authoritative technical agency in food and agriculture and agrifood systems transformation; and
• ensure risk-smart and accountable operations and management.
FAO Ghana is implementing the Technical Cooperation Project Support to women fonio value chain actors in Ghana with the objective to build the capacity of smallholder fonio producers on good production and post-production practices and create awareness on the consumption of fonio. The project responds to FAO Programme Priority Areas and SDGs as follows\:
• BN2 - Nutrition for the Most Vulnerable (SDG Target 2.1)
• BL1 - Gender Equality and Rural Women's Empowerment (SDG Target 2.3)
• BE1 - Climate Change Mitigating and Adapted Agrifood Systems (SDG Target 2.4)
The position is located in the FAO Country Office in Ghana.


Reporting Lines

The National Agribusiness Value Chain Specialist will work under the direct supervision of the office of the FAO Representative, and the technical supervision of the Lead Technical Officer.


Technical Focus

The National Agribusiness Value Chain Specialist will be supporting value chain analysis, creating training materials, and developing national strategies for fonio production and post-production. The fonio value chain including the inputs supply, production, processing and marketing will be studied and analysed. The value analysis will compile the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, lessons learned, recommendations, etc. to inform investments in fonio.


Tasks and responsibilities

• Conduct fonio value chain analysis (VCA) research in Ghana.
• Carry out secondary data research (statistics, reports, and publications) and draft written contributions in the form of key bullet points as part of the literature review.
• Undertake primary data collection to collect functional, social, economic and environmental data. Data collection methods may include observations, key informant interviews, focus groups, and actor interviews.
• Undertake field missions as and when required.
• Participate in project workshops, trainings and/or meetings at national level as and when required.
• Develop the VCA findings presentation for validation workshop.
• Participate in and facilitate the validation workshop.
• Carry out any other activities relevant to this assignment

Minimum Requirements

• Advanced university degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics or any related field
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in value chain analysis
• Working knowledge of English
• National of Ghana or resident of the country with valid work permit.
