Overall Purpose of the Role:

The Protection Team Leader will conduct protection and human rights monitoring in crisis-affected areas within Malakal and other DRC programs in Upper Nile, as outlined in the work plan. The role involves monitoring the protection needs and concerns of IDP, returnee, and host community populations. This will be done through focus group discussions, individual interviews, household surveys, rapid assessments, community mobilization, and general monitoring visits.

The Team Leader will also contribute to the analysis and dissemination of the data collected, sharing relevant findings with other stakeholders to address identified protection issues. Additionally, the TL will handle protection concerns by referring individuals to the appropriate actors within the camp.

With support from the Protection Manager, the TL will be responsible for delivering workshops and training sessions at the community level and to other stakeholders, focusing on human rights and basic protection principles. Throughout their work, the TL will ensure confidentiality and adhere strictly to the Code of Conduct.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Supervision and support of Protection Officers and Assistants
  • Implementation of protection activities (monitoring, assessments, training)
  • Protection data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Capacity building for protection teams and community structures
  • Coordination with community leaders and relevant stakeholders
  • Procurement, logistics, and documentation management for activities
  • Represent DRC in coordination meetings

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 4 years in human rights/protection in humanitarian contexts.
    • Technical knowledge in human rights, protection, and project management.
    • Proven experience in protection monitoring and data management.
    • Leadership and conflict resolution skills.
  • Education:
    • Higher Diploma or Degree in Social Sciences, Law, or related fields.
    • Strong understanding of human rights and protection principles.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email applications.
