Background

UN Women, inspired by the vision of equality enshrined in the United Nations Charter, strives to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and girls, promote women's empowerment, and achieve gender equality within the framework of sustainable development and human rights. In Mexico, UN Women aligns its work with national priorities and international and regional human rights instruments, particularly the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The organization focuses on five priority areas:

•Strengthening comprehensive gender equality policies, enhancing women's leadership and participation in governance
•Promoting economic security and decent work for women
•Ensuring a life free from violence for all women and girls, and
•Enabling women's active participation in sustainable development, peace, and resilience.

To achieve these goals, UN Women in Mexico coordinates strategic partnerships with different stakeholders, such as the International Cooperation Roundtable for Gender Equality in Mexico (ICRG). This group was established as an informal space for exchange and strategic coordination with the international community to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in Mexico.
UN Women also works with local governments through specific thematic programs and projects to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. These efforts include the implementation of comprehensive care systems, the promotion of women’s political participation and leadership, and the prevention of gender-based violence. Additionally, UN Women works on legislative harmonization and the creation of public budgets with a gender perspective, ensuring that local policies reflect and support the rights and needs of women at all stages of their lives.
UN Women Mexico also partners with private sector organizations, such as companies, corporate foundations, industry associations and chambers of commerce to advance gender equality in the workplace, the marketplace and community. By leveraging the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) as a guiding framework, UN Women engages the private sector through various initiatives to encourage the equitable participation of women in the labor market, encourage shared responsibility in caregiving, prevent gender-based violence in the world of work, eliminate the gender pay gap, among other key objectives. These partnerships aim to create inclusive and sustainable work environments that benefit both women and businesses.

To support these efforts, UN Women seeks an intern to provide support on the monitoring of potential donors, identification of different actors’ priorities, and mobilization of resources.
