The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat helps the urban poor by transforming cities into safer and healthier places with better opportunities. It works with organizations at every level, including all spheres of government, civil society, and the private sector. 

In Mozambique, UN-Habitat has been physically present since 2002, implementing a range of projects dealing with interconnected issues such as access to adequate and resistant shelter, basic and social services, secure land tenure, sustainable urban planning and development, local governance, natural disasters risk reduction, among others key issues to promote sustainable development. One of its crucial areas of intervention has been building resilience to climate, tackling the problem of vulnerability of people and human settlements, which leads to recurrent damage, loss and negative impact in the economy. Urban development has been another crucial area of intervention, addressing rapid urbanization and urban population growth. UN-Habitat Mozambique Country Office is part of the Regional Office for Africa (ROAF) headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. The post is located within the Mozambique Country Programme.

Under the direct guidance and supervision of the Administrative and Finance Officer, the driver will provide reliable and safe driving services to UN-Habitat staff, and if so, required to other UN officials and visitors ensuring the highest standards of discretion, integrity, and responsibility. The Driver provides also driving services to the operations and programme staff, Consultants and Experts, and UN staff on mission.

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Head of Office (HoO) the Driver will support and work in close collaboration with Administration and Support. The incumbent will support the driving services to UN-Habitat Staff ensuring the highest standards of discretion, integrity, and responsibility. 

Under the guidance and supervision of the Administrative and Finance Officer, the Driver will provide reliable and safe driving services ensuring to high-ranking UN-Habitat/UN Officials and visitors, highest standards of discretion, integrity, high sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver will demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact, and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. 

Upon request for the supervisor, the driver can also be required to provide driving services to the Operations and Programme staff in the Country Office., consultants and experts and UN staff on mission.

Required Skills and Experience
 
Education:
  • Secondary Education. 
  • Valid Driver’s license. 
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience as a driver. 
  • Safe driving records
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.
  • Off-road terrain experience and familiarity with driving in all terrain across Mozambique

 

Please note that continuance of appointment beyond the initial 12 months is contingent upon the successful completion of a probationary period.
