Organizational Setting

The FAO Country Office in Bangladesh (FABGD) is responsible for leading FAO's response to country priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning and implementation of FAO's priority activities in the country. It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes, identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in the country and, in collaboration with the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP), Divisions, Offices and Centres at FAO Headquarters, develops, promotes and oversees FAO's strategic response to these priorities. Through its Country Programming Framework (CPF), the Country Office supports policy dialogue on food security, agriculture and rural development issues, at country level and facilitates the emergence of country partnerships and supports capacity development and resource mobilization for food security, agriculture and rural development in the region.

The grade of the position is SC-8.


Reporting Lines

The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh and direct supervision of the AFAOR (Admin), close coordination and guidance from the Office Technology Coordinator (OTC) of the Representation and close collaboration/ liaison with the IT colleagues, Project Team Leader, Admin/Operations, Communication, and Database management officials as well as other units of Country office and different projects.


Technical Focus

The incumbent will provide technical assistance in the areas of day-to-day IT solutions, including server and software management.


Tasks and responsibilities

• Provide direct technical assistance to all FAO users by acting as the first point of contact for computer & network users.
• Provide all kind of technical support to FAO Representation Office, POPS & SACP Project office and other project offices based in Dhaka, Chittagong and other locations in coordination with Office Technology Coordinator.
• Dedicatedly provide all kind of ICT support for the operation of POPS & SACP project offices.
• Design, implement and maintain the Local Area Network (LAN), Server, CCTV system, Access Control system, PABX system, Internet Service, security systems, in-house systems and Websites.
• Work with Civil & electrical engineer to analyze any new office setup requirement and plan and design IT / network blueprints for the office establishment and ensure all kind of MOSS compliance is maintained for office operations and security issues.
• Provide all kind of technical and administrative support to plan, design and manage large national / international events, workshops, training etc. and coordinate with event management team for the implementation of events.
• Provide technical support for procurement of IT equipment, software, services by preparing specs, completing evaluation.
• Maintain and inventory of computers, peripherals software and other ICT equipment, ensure its proper maintenance, secure handling, and storage; track loaned equipment.
• Select, evaluate, and control external IT partners, services suppliers, experts and support companies and ensure corporate requirements high performance and quality of work.
• Assist in the coordination, set-up and use of networks services (i.e., file/print service, security, e-mail, backups).
• Manage, organize, secure and regularly Back-up and maintain the entered data.
• Identify IT training / learning needs for end users training.
• Ensure FAO’s security standards are adhered to protect corporate data and systems.
• Advice on maintenance of equipment and acquisition of Hardware supplies, making routine repairs and change of Hardware electronic components.
• Support A-FAOR (Admin) in preparing IT replacement plan including all other IT-related activities for the County office and project.
• Analyse new technology and propose use of improved technology and process to improve system operations.
• Support the M&E in design of a monitoring and evaluation plans – provide IT-related support.
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned by the supervisor.


CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


Minimum Requirements

• Advanced university degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 08 years of experience in skills development, Program design, adaptation, monitoring, research, evaluation, IT replacement and technology or similar fields.
• Working knowledge of English and Bangla.
• National of Bangladesh.

Technical/Functional Skills

• Experience in the dedicatedly provider of IT support and management.
• Extent and relevance of experience for regular assessment of IT needs.
• Should be willing to travel to project areas/offices on a regular basis.
• Familiarity with the current updated Windows operating system
• Work experience in the UN system would be an added advantage
• The candidate must demonstrate high communication skills both verbal and written, negotiation, vision, strategy, coordination and teamwork.
• Have strong analytical, critical thinking, planning, and problem-solving skills, as well as gender-sensitive and cross-cultural
