Office/Unit/Project Description

UNDP China has been working in China over the past 40 years, partnering to advance various phases of China’s development. UNDP China’s actions and programmes for the period of 2021-2025 are defined in its Country Programme Document for China (CPD), prepared in cooperation with the Government of China and other partners. The CPD contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for China 2021-2025 and aligned to support the development priorities outlined in the Government of China’s 14th Five Year Plan.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Operation Associate of operations team, the driver provides reliable and safe driving services for office staff or external visitors, ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work  

  • Provision of reliable and secure driving services
  • Proper use of vehicle
  • Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle
  • General support service to office

 

Responsibilities:

1. Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services by:

a)  driving office vehicles for the transport of UNDP staff, other high-ranking officials and visitors and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items

b)  airport pick up and send off

c)  assisting on visa application, settling payments, minor purchasing, banking, pouch and customs services

d)  being punctual all the time

e)  other ad hoc transportation request and be ready to work overtime

f)  able to check address/flight information and use GPS device

g)  copy, printing services as needed

 

2. Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through

a)  accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs and ensure all related information and data are complete    

b)  provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports

 

3. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through conducting timely minor repairs

a)  arranging for major repairs

b)  timely changing oil, checking tires, brakes, car washing, etc

c)  timely refueling gasoline

d)  keeping assigned vehicle in clean condition

 

4. Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including

a)  UN Car flag  UN

b)  vehicle insurance

c)  vehicle logs

d)  office directory

e)  map of the city/country

f)  first aid kit

g)  necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.

 

5. Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents,  including the following:

a)  ensuring the site of accident is well protected

b)  immediately informing policeman or call traffic emergency telephone

c)  if there is any injury,  immediately call ambulance

d)  providing assistance to policeman for investigation of the accident

e)  assisting the Operations Assistant to complete an accident report to be sent to HQs

 

Institutional Arrangement

Reporting line:

The driver is required to report daily work to the operations associate in Operations Team and secretary, with oversight from the Operation Manager.

 

Short-term NPSA contract modality:

  • The contract of Short-term NPSA is issued for a year and used intermittently for maximum 80 working days per calendar year.
  • The salary will be calculated based on a fixed daily rate and actual working days (regardless of Weekends and holidays).
  • Additional Hourly rate = Daily rate / 8
  • The salary will be paid at the end of each month.

Competencies

 

Min. Academic Education

Secondary Education.

Min. years of relevant work experience

At least 3 years’ work experience as a driver; safe driving record;

Required  skills

• Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.

•  Good driving skills

•  Proficiency in the use of computers and office software packages as well as web-based management systems.

• Good at using office devices, such as printers, scanners.

Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section

• Proven experience in checking address/flight information, delivery financial documents to the bank, do the custom clearance at the custom is desirable.

• Working experience in International Organizations or embassies will be an asset.

Required Language(s)

Fluency in both Chinese and English

Certificate

Minimum requirement:

1.Valid Driving licence C1

2.No significant driving accidents certificate(It can be downloaded in the 12123 app)
