Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Country Office, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

The EU-funded programme entitled “Support to Rural Entrepreneurship, Investment and Trade in Papua New Guinea” (EU-STREIT PNG) is implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) as the United Nations Joint Programme (UNJP), in collaboration with the Government of Papua New Guinea (PNG) and other partner agencies such as ILO, UNCDF, UNDP and ITU. The programme aims to promote sustainable agriculture and rural development, with a particular emphasis on improving the living conditions of rural communities, with a great emphasis on gender equality and youth inclusion.


Reporting Lines

The National Digital Media Specialist, works under the overall supervision of the Programme Coordinator EU-STREIT PNG, and with direct supervision of the Communication Officer, EU-STREIT PNG.

This Position is based in Wewak, ESP of Papua New Guinea.


Technical Focus

The National Digital Media Specialist will contribute to the planned outputs and deliverables of communication, visibility and reporting components of EU-STREIT Programme.


Tasks and responsibilities

• Support the National and International Communication Officers in the development of a series of videos that reflect the project’s achievements over a period of time based on international good practices and covering all the technical areas of the STREIT programme (e.g. from baseline to completion) and other documentaries according to the publication/visibility plan;
• Develop social media content & materials relevant to focus of the STREIT Programme in accordance with needs of the Programme in terms of visibility, beneficiaries´ awareness, newsworthiness and Programme-related educational purposes;
• In cooperation with the National and International Communication Officers, identify and cover Programme-related events and visibility opportunities and develop and publish it on social media;
• Support national and international videographers/producers/reporters in the development of multimedia content that reflects the project’s achievements.
• Document through social media the Programme activities with a focus on positive impacts and changes brought to the implementation region, the Programme visibility and promotion of beneficiaries´ ownership;
• Maintain and update STREIT Programme social media accounts and webpages;
• Track and monitor social media and online platforms in terms of all relevant material, content or issues that were attributed to the EU-STREIT PNG Programme (Social Media Listening).
• Support the National and International Communication Officers in the development of a series of featured success/impact stories through the collection and editing of the textual, audio and visual content.
• Support the National and International Communication Officers in the development of a series of video/multimedia-based training materials (knowledge products) with the support of thematic technical teams.
• Support and contribute to the development of a digital marketing strategy for the promotion of the EU-STREIT PNG Programme outputs on national, regional and corporate FAO and EU social media channels. This may include influencer and paid marketing.
• Ensure that locally developed social media material for publication represent and highlight values of UN and EU external action.


Liaison with the OCC will be maintained, either directly or through an agreed focal point/coordinator, to ensure compliance with OCC standards, appropriate review and clearance processes.

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum BSc or BA of communication, arts, design, public relations, journalism and other relevant fields.
• At least 2 years of professional experience in a relevant position such as designer, communication specialist, videographer, etc.
• National of Papua New Guinea
• Working Knowledge of English and Tok Pisin.
