Organizational Setting
The Office of Communications (OCC) is responsible for all corporate and internal communication activities of the Organization. It ensures coherence and consistency in FAO’s corporate messaging and communications’ outputs, as well as enables cost-effectiveness in use of communication-related resources across the Organization.
The post is located in the Digital and Multimedia Branch (OCCI) of the Office of Communications (OCC) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.

Reporting Lines
The Communication Officer (Video Producer) reports to the Communication Officer (Multimedia), multimedia pillar (photo, video, audio, digital asset management) in the Digital and Multimedia Branch, OCCI.

Technical Focus
The Communication Officer (Video Producer) is the steward of FAO’s global video production and works to build compelling and high-quality video content to showcase FAO’s work and reinforce its advocacy. The position includes oversight of promotion, production and dissemination of FAO’s multimedia information products, in collaboration with other communications colleagues to ensure FAO messaging and advocacy are delivered with maximum impact.

Key Results
Production, promotion and dissemination of audiovisual materials which helps to increase FAO’s visibility, advance its advocacy and mobilize support for its beneficiaries. Safeguarding and promotion of historic audiovisual material. Contribution to the development and strengthening of FAO’s external and internal communications through capacity-building, training and support for video production and multimedia digital asset management at all levels of the Organization.

Key Functions
• Researches and analyses technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional, and technology related information, data and statistics and/or related policy issues to support internal and/or external communication.
• Produces a variety of information and reports as well as input for communication-related documents and web pages.
• Collaborates in the development of improved/updated tools, systems, processes and databases.
• Participates in multi-disciplinary teams, and/or leads working groups/teams, collaborates with other Divisions/Offices and agencies on work groups and committees and promotes best practices.
• Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences and influences partners in stakeholder consultations.

Specific Functions
• Supports the overall supervision, planning, preparation, production and dissemination of FAO’s multimedia information products.
• Oversees and develops and/or optimizes video productions, coverage of events including live events, press conferences, briefings and other newsworthy symposia at FAO headquarters, and overall video and related multimedia work.
• Promotes the use of FAO multimedia products online and provides broadcasters with FAO multimedia material for distribution, in line with international standards, formats and systems.
• Produces films and edits high quality long-format, character-driven feature pieces and interviews for broadcast television and multimedia outlet; writing the content, video treatments and scripts for news, feature and documentary stories as required.
• Collaborate with the senior producer/director in the creative decision making to the planning, budgeting, scheduling, and delivery of all elements of audiovisual pillar and especially the use of video on digital platforms.
• Commissions and oversees video production for corporate, field, and creative projects, in coordination with relevant FAO or partner teams, driving the development of creative communications projects, including media partnerships, the use of videography to support the communications objectives of FAO.
• Sets and upholds standards for quality, timeliness and relevance of FAO’s corporate video productions, through the development of guidelines and quality-assurance workflows.
• Organizes and oversees workflow to streamline video productions and ensure their harmonized look and feel at the highest professional standards, ensuring proper archiving of all produced material in the FAO Digital Media Hub, a new digital asset management system, and the proper safekeeping and preservation of historic video materials.
• Liaises with other divisions/units and regional/country offices to ensure the development and timely delivery of multimedia communication materials for the Organization.
• Monitors and analyzes policy materials and developments within FAO at headquarters and field levels and beyond (United Nations, intergovernmental, think-tank, corporate and civil society reports) to keep abreast of strategic developments and latest technology, and to ensure that they are consistently and accurately reflected in written communications/multimedia information products.
• Provides guidance to, and supervises, more junior staff within the multimedia pillar.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements
• Advanced university degree in communication, social science, journalism, political science or a related field.
• Five years of relevant experience in communication, public information, news and journalism environment and/or social media networks, digital content production, international relations.
• Working knowledge (proficient – level C) of English and limited knowledge (intermediate – level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).

Technical/Functional Skills
• Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions, is desirable.
• Extent and relevance of experience in communication at international level, including experience in news, journalism and/or multimedia information products including social media, digital communication platforms and live broadcasting.
• Extent and relevance of experience in video and audio production including filming and digital video editing in a studio setting as well as live and in the field.
• Extent and relevance of experience producing and distributing content for broadcast media.
• Extent and relevance of experience in editing with Adobe Premiere software and practical experience with Photoshop and Bridge.
• Extent and relevance of experience in working with a high-quality digital asset management (DAM) system.
• Extent and relevance of experience in drafting high-quality written materials for video production, broadcasters and specific audiences.
• Extent and relevance of experience in multimedia, social media and digital communication platforms and in filming and editing video products.
• Technical training in video production is an advantage.
• Understanding of FAO policies and programmes is considered a strong asset.
• Demonstrated ability in videography;
• Ability to keep abreast of new technological developments in the area of communication, news and/or social media networks.
