About IRRI
The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.

Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
Job Purpose

The consultant will be integral in contributing to the L&D unit in creating effective and engaging online learning modules. The primary goal of a learning experience designer will be to understand the learning needs to design and develop learner-centric material by creating a user friendly interface meeting the agreed learning objectives.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities

The consultant is expected to work collaboratively with the L&D Team to co- create e-learning modules based on set timelines through a consultative approach while fostering a constructive feedback incorporation. The key duties are enumerated in detail below:

Project Management
1) Time Management and Progress Alignment
(i) Develop a project timeline outlining key milestones for assigned modules.
(ii) Regularly assess and update on progress against timelines and make adjustments as needed
(iii) Communicate with team members to ensure alignment on project goals and timelines

2) Coordination with Stakeholders
(i) Collaborate with subject matter experts to account for multidisciplinary and multicultural perspectives
(ii) Facilitate effective communication to gather relevant information and insights on recommended content
(iii) Ensure alignment between instructional design process and broad Institutional goals

Content Development and Implementation
1) Design simple and engaging content
(i) Align content with specific needs catering to diverse audiences
(ii) Develop instructional designs integrated with content which is easy to understand.
(iii) Use multimedia elements, interactive features and a user friendly layout
(iv) Include opportunities for learners to connect content with real world scenarios

2) Resource Utilization
(i) Assess and ensure compatibility and accessibility in accordance with Institutional IT set up
(ii) Leverage on available resources including technology and tools per the Institutional recommendation

3) User Acceptance Testing
(i) Facilitate UAT for assigned modules before the formal launch.
(ii) Ensure feedback incorporation with relevant stakeholders for institutional alignment and any pre launch glitch adjustment

Assessment & Evaluation
1) Implementation of Evaluation Measures
(i) Incorporate formative assessment throughout the modules to track progress
(ii) Use summative assessments to enable tracking the success of learning objectives for each module
(iii) Make initial recommendations on draft measures for evaluating learners’ performance

2) Reporting mechanism on Learners’ Feedback
(i) Collect and analyze feedback from learners on modules they undertake
(ii) Explore the scope of generating comprehensive reports in partnership with the L&D Officer
(iii) Use feedback to make recommendations for continuous improvements on the modules designed

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Computer Sciences / IT / Digital Multimedia Courses / Communication / Educational Technology / Mass Communication or related, 3 -5 years relevant work experience (2)Sample portfolio of designed modules ( minimum of 2 modules) through Articulate 360
Skills Required

Mandatory

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work smoothly with internal team and stakeholders
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with strong knowledge of instructional designing, authoring tools and the basics of learning & development concepts (e.g. ADDIE model, adult learning principles)
