We proudly present the organization to kick off this series: Amnesty International Sweden and their IDEA Lead (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Anti-racism), Armina Etminan.
Below you can find a short glimpse into Armina's work:
-
What is Amnesty International?
Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 10 million people who are committed to creating a future where human rights are enjoyed by everyone. United by our shared humanity, we know that the power to create positive change is within all of us. Through our detailed research and determined campaigning, we help fight abuses of human rights worldwide. We bring torturers to justice, change oppressive laws and free people jailed just for voicing their opinion.
- What is your role at Amnesty and what does that entail?
I am part of the management group and my responsibility is to mainstream IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-racism, and Accessibility) at all levels of Amnesty Sweden. I support managers, leaders, and employees so that they have the right capacity within their mission and line of work. In close collaboration with Human Resources, I make sure that we work through an intersectional lens in our recruitment processes, systemic work environment and anti-discriminatory work.
-
How do you work with IDEA?
We have an IDEA strategy that guides us and sets the direction for our IDEA work. Based on this, we set goals and activities that we follow up on. For example, this includes training for new employees and elected representatives, continuous skills development initiatives, checklists for intersectional analyses and accessible arrangements.
-
How do you make sure inclusivity work gets implemented into actions and everyday work?
It's a learning journey. We understand that it's a long-term effort and that we have to change ourselves to change the world. By working systematically and long-term with IDEA, in both structure and culture, and by continuously educating ourselves and providing tools and methods, we try to ensure that we integrate IDEA at all levels.
-
What motivates you to go to work in the morning?
That I have the mandate, resources, and conditions to drive change in the world's largest human rights organization. That I can use my knowledge and abilities to create change for IDEA from the inside out. And of course, all the skilled and lovely colleagues that I can laugh and cry with!
- What are you most proud of achieving at Amnesty?
We measure IDEA through equality data. Our employee survey showed a very good result on all questions related to IDEA. It became clear that the work that I do, but above all that we do collectively, gives results.
We at Impactpool can’t wait to know more in our webinar on February 20th at 11.00 CET where Armina will present more extensively her and Amnesty’s work on inclusion.
