Presently USAID is prioritizing hiring in five critical program areas :
Legal Officers provide legal advice to mission staff on host country and mission laws, regulations, authorities, practices, and privileges affecting agreements, transactions, and operations of USAID, and the personal conduct of its employees.
Population/Health/Nutrition Officers are responsible for developing, overseeing, managing (staff, financial and technical resources), and evaluating PHN programs in any or all of the following areas: population/family planning and reproductive health; child survival; maternal health; HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections; infectious diseases; nutrition; social marketing and behavior change; policy reform; operations/programmatic research and biomedical/clinical research; commodity/pharmaceutical logistics and supply chain management; health systems strengthening and health economics.
Executive Officers are key to the functioning of our overseas Missions and serve as primary advisors to the country Director on administrative matters. Executive Officers provide overall direction for general service operations, human resources management, facilities management, information technology and security, occupational safety and health programs, and construction management.
Contracting Officers serve as one of the key business advisors in USAID'S overseas Missions. Responsibilities include the negotiation, award and administration of both acquisition and assistance Contracting Officers train and support technical staff in the implementation and monitoring of sound development programs while ensuring compliance with award terms and conditions.
Financial Management Officers work as part of the USAID Mission Controller's team to provide accounting and budgeting for Mission operations and conducting a broad range of financial analyses on Agency programs and local implementing partners, including host country financial systems. Financial Management Officers provide advice and assistance to all components of the Mission regarding financial practices and procedures applicable to program implementation.
Work as an Intern or a Fellow at USAID
The work assigned to an Intern or a Fellow varies in complexity by educational experience and may include:
- Research
- Writing program memoranda
- Drafting documents
- Facilitating meetings and special events
- Attending program discussions in the Agency, at the Department of State, or on Capitol Hill
- Communicating about program issues with USAID field Missions abroad, and with USAID’s many stakeholders and the general public
- Participating in employee engagement and mentoring events
