What IFAD offers

A great organization…

IFAD’s mission is to transform rural economies and food systems by rendering them more resilient, productive, sustainable and inclusive. To achieve this, IFAD works in a decentralized context that allows staff to establish direct ties with beneficiaries and stakeholders. IFAD’s size allows staff to experience first-hand the impact of their contributions.

IFAD is dynamic and agile, ever-evolving in the face of global challenges to achieve its mission. Change emanates from and for IFAD staff, facilitated by an organizational structure that puts Senior Management in direct contact with the workforce, creating a participatory environment.

A relatively small workforce combined with a people-oriented organizational culture makes it easier to acknowledge employee talents. This, coupled with an emphasis on nurturing and training, allows for plenty of opportunities for personal and professional growth, within IFAD and beyond. In fact, IFAD is the only UN Agency that is also a financial institution; over time, this has translated into inter-agency agreements to support mobility within this expanded network.

With plenty of career development opportunities…

Training

IFAD offers many learning opportunities, starting with unit- and job-specific induction programmes to corporate and external training, such as language classes. IFAD has an education assistance programme – a grant to enable staff members to attend university-level courses – as well as development and study leave.

Rewards and recognition

IFAD follows a reward & recognition framework to reward staff with superior or outstanding performance every year; rewards may be monetary or non-monetary.

IFAD’s Awards Programme recognizes exemplar individuals who have significantly contributed to the overall effectiveness of the Fund, demonstrating IFAD behavioural competencies and core values on a daily basis.

Internal mobility

Furthering IFAD’s need for a functionally and geographically mobile workforce, IFAD has instituted periodic job rotation exercises within the Fund, allowing for a more diverse, stimulating and richer career.

Inter-agency mobility

IFAD has entered transfer, secondment and/or loan of staff agreements with 15 agencies applying the United Nations Common System of Salaries and Allowances.

Additionally, IFAD’s statutory nature has led the Fund to enter into specific agreements and arrangements with international financial institutions and development organizations outside the UN Common System.

At an enticing compensation…

UN Common System Salaries

IFAD is an observer to the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC). Salaries of Professional staff are set by reference to the highest-paying national civil service in the world (currently the U.S. federal civil service).

UN Joint Staff Pension Fund

Defined benefits pension plan as per the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF)

National and International Staff Benefits

There are a number of staff benefits at IFAD. Some are applicable to all categories of staff (e.g. income tax relief, danger pay, special post allowances, etc.), whereas others are specific to internationally-recruited staff (e.g. rental subsidies, dependency benefits, home leave and family visit travel, etc.).

Flexible work arrangements

In addition to absence from duty for annual, sick, parental, compassionate and personal leave reasons, IFAD grants special leave with or without full pay for a list of reasons, including training and staff development, academic studies, participation in inter-agency games and mini-sabbaticals.

Alternative working arrangements have been introduced to promote work-life balance through flexible working hours, part-time work, teleworking and job-sharing.
