Finance Officer for Diakonia Country Office in Lebanon. Fixed term 12-month contract at 100% with the possibility of extension based on budget availability and performance.

We are looking for a passionate finance officer to support the finance department in the country office.

Overall purpose of the role

To proactively plan and execute assignments as well as to develop processes and methods within the working area.

Assignment to be adapted to the target group and/or the specific context and carried out in line with Diakonia’s global policies and steering documents, as well as Diakonia´s feminist and human-rights based principles and our values of solidarity, justice, courage, commitment and accountability.

Duties and Repsonsibilities

  • Carry out the assignments within the area of responsibility to strengthen the organization’s results and sustainability.
  • Contribute to and assure efficient implementation and quality of tasks to implement established plans.
  • Take responsibility for development, planning and follow-up within the area.
  • Support the development of methods, systems and processes related to the area of responsibility.
  • To monitor and stay updated on developments within the working area.
  • Contribute to learning, knowledge management, and continuous improvements within the area.

Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent in Finance or Accounting.
  • Skills and experience within relevant area.
  • Analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills.
  • 3-4 years of experience in the same position and handling same level tasks.
  • 2-3 years' experience working with iNGOs within the finance department. 
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Fluency in English language.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and work closely with the Procurement Department to ensure all payments are in compliance with the internal set policies.
  • Ensure that all payments are properly authorized and fully documented.
  • Prepare and process the payments for all suppliers and consultants.
  • Ensure financial records are kept up to date with the latest transactions and changes.
  • Assist in the monthly closing process.
  • Perform, on a monthly basis, the cash and bank reconciliation, in addition to reconciliation of the various balance accounts.
  • Contribute to financial audits processes.
  • Monitor all bank deposits and payments.
  • Handle the petty cash and petty cash payments.
  • Review and prepare all staff salaries.
  • Prepare balance sheets monthly and yearly financial reports.
  • Provide financial advice to partners on regular basis.
  • Contribute to Diakonia’s partnership status improvement through, but not limited to, building partners’ capacity on the financial side, working on financial and audit report assessments.
  • Perform regular field visits and financial monitoring to partners.
  • Coordinate with the program team on selection, institutional capacity development plans and overall partnership development methodologies.
  • Liaise with the auditors to follow up on all tax calculations and payments.
  • Perform any other tasks that may be requested.

Conditions and application

Location: Beirut, Lebanon Country Office.

Duration: Full-time position (37.5 hours per week), 12 months fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension based on budget availability and performance.

Other conditions: Working hours are a combination of office and remote hours, as agreed upon with the manager.
