Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO representatives, is to assistant governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
The FAO Representation in Bangladesh is organized around three main units: Programme, Operations and Administration and has a sub- office in Cox Bazar. The current portfolio of projects includes activities related to Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Natural Resource Management.


Reporting Lines

Under the overall managerial administrative leadership of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh and will be under the direct supervision of the Chief Technical Adviser.


Technical Focus

The incumbent will contribute to the country's programme and portfolio as foreseen in the country programme framework and specifically in project implementation.


Tasks and responsibilities

- Assist the Chief Technical Advisor(CTA) in fully project implementation
- Collate, review and analyse key policy, strategy, program and other documents, data and information related to the agri-food system in the country;
- Organize and conduct meetings with Government authorities, development partners, the private sector, and other stakeholders in the food and agriculture sector, with a view to solicit views, advice, inputs and collaboration in support of the project objectives.
- Ensure the relevant government institutions and other stakeholders are fully involved in all project activities, outputs and outcome in accordance with the agreed project work plan;
- Provide technical support to Technical Support Unit (TSU) on the supervision of all the technical activities related to all components of the project and participate in meetings with FAO and the stake holders;
- Ensure and facilitate that the monitoring plan approved at the beginning of the project are effectively carried out;
- Oversee performance and quality of services provided by the contracted service providers to ensure adequate quality and consistency of the reports and deliverables;
- Collate, assess and analyse the agri-food system transformation experiences from other countries in the Asia-Pacific and other regions with a view to reflect successful experiences in the proposed agri-food system transformation strategy in the country;
- Support development strategy linked to the identified priority programmatic areas and identify the areas of cooperation related to the private sector..
- Prepare project-related reports, communication material and related documentation;
- Organize project-related workshops, meetings and make presentations on project activities, outputs and outcomes to key stakeholders;
- Performs any other project-related tasks as assigned by the project management team.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


Minimum Requirements

- Advanced university degree (MSc/ PhD) in agriculture, economics, or related fields;
- At least 10 years of working experience in fields related to agriculture, rural development, policy analysis, agri-food system transformation, and/or other relevant areas of work
- National of Bangladesh

Technical/Functional Skills

- Strong analytical skills: ability to summarize and present complex information in effective manner.

- Experience in national/international agencies in leading project implementation in agriculture and rural development is an asset;
- Knowledge of theory and practice of agri-food system transformation in Bangladesh and the region is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills including, extent and relevance of experience in programme/project formulation, analysis, planning and implementation.
- Relevant work experience in Bangladesh and Asia is an asset.
- Relevance and extent of knowledge and experience in working with UN Coordination, Civil Society Organization, private sector national governmental, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams.
