OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The mission of WHO's Health Emergencies Programme (The Programme) is to build the capacities of Member States to manage health emergency risks and, when national capacities are overwhelmed, to lead and coordinate the international response to contain outbreaks and to provide effective relief and recovery to affected populations. The Programme supports countries and coordinates international action, to prevent, prepare for, detect, rapidly respond to, and recover from outbreaks and emergencies. The objectives of the Country Readiness Strengthening Department include the development and strengthening of core national capacities necessary to mitigate and respond to emergency risks and vulnerabilities. The Department prioritizes support to the most vulnerable and low capacity countries. The Community Readiness and Resilience (CRR) Unit aims to support Member States to strengthen readiness and build resilience for health emergencies in communities towards minimizing the impact of the crisis or risk, and towards a sustained recovery.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

1. Work and collaborate with topic area leads and teams to support critical activities and track progress against milestones and deliverables and communicate to key stakeholders;
2. Work collaboratively within the wider HSRC team, including Project Management Office, assisting and providing support along their workstreams and platforms as needed;
3. Support quality control for risk communication and community engagement products such as public information; community conversation kits, brochures, leaflets and posters; guides for stakeholders for risk communication, and ensure their translation into local language and their adaptation for the local context;
4. Serve as an RCCE response project officer to support the global response system and RCCE team needs in terms of monitoring and evaluation, message/engagement/concept testing and team input and output process;
5. Serve as coordinator within the network of key partners in organisations collaborating with WHO on RCCE workstream of HSRC initiative;
6. Provides relevant partners with critical information on inter agency priorities, activities and opportunities for cooperation;
7. Coordinate procurement processing for contractual agreements;
8.Perform any other tasks as requested by the supervisor. Duties include: regular and active participation in relevant inter agency working groups, meeting and forums; compilation of reports and analysis on agency activities, acquire and share information with technical teams and regional offices on inter agency activities; raise visibility of RCCE workstream.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: A first level university degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Health Economics, Business Administration or related field

Experience

Essential: Minimum two years of experience working on project/programme management in public health
Desirable: Experience in WHO or other UN agencies. Experience with NGOs and bilateral agencies

Skills

- Analytical and writing skills to identify critical issues and prepare a variety of documents and briefing materials.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 49,254 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2914 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
