The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT, is a not-for-profit research and training organization with partners in over 100 countries, focused on increasing food security and reducing poverty at an international scale. We are seeking for a dynamic, and self-motivated professional with excellent organizational and people skills for the position of Research Associate in CIMMYT.

The position will be based in Delhi, India.

Specific duties:

  • Explore available data (food systems activity and emission data), identify data gaps, and fill such data gaps across food systems in MITIGATE+ countries (Kenya, Vietnam, China, and Colombia).
  • Assist WP leader in developing more robust data, data inventory framework and MRV systems.
  • Design, develop and manage an online data portal for improved data accessibility across food systems.
  • Identify different pathways of sustainable intensification in the priority areas identified through analysis of NUE atlas yield potential in rice, wheat and maize systems.
  • Conduct other assignments requested by the supervisors.

Required qualification, skills, and attitudes:

  • At least Master’s degree in geo-informatics with adequate knowledge of computer science and database management or master’s degree in computer science with adequate knowledge of geospatial analysis and bigdata analytics.
  • Knowledge and skills around computer programming and software packages such as R, Python, GIS and Google Earth Engine.
  • Knowledge on activity and emissions data associated with food systems and their potential sources.
  • Ability to scour large datasets from multiple sources, to manage of such datasets (e.g. data dashboard creation) and to use bigdata analytics to create knowledge products from such databases.
  • Should possess competencies like Creative Thinking, Team Work, Client Orientation and Problem Solving skills.

The position is for an initial fixed-term contract of 2 years, after which further employment is subject to performance and the continued availability of funds. CIMMYT offers an attractive remuneration package, with a range of benefits including health insurance.
