Mission and objectives

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism.

Context

UN Volunteers Programme expands its operations in Central Asia to help their response to the war in Ukraine. New operations require better visibility among potential partners, communities, and media in the given country. UN Volunteers communications team needs help to establish those partnerships and will lead the Online Volunteer through the main steps. UNV is looking for ways to engage the most skilled of newcomers on a volunteer basis for local public and private sector. The aim is harnessing the potential of immigrants coming into Central Asian countries and expanding the UVP Talent Pool with high skilled volunteers by identifying the sources and mobilizing them effectively. With this task, Online Volunteers will have a chance to work with UNV Regional Office Europe and CIS in developing partnership and talent pool in respective countries.

Task description

We are looking for 25 ambitious, experienced and creative online volunteers to help our office identify and map civil society organizations across Central Asian countries (Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan). The countries where mapping exercise is needed will be distributed among the Online Volunteers: therefore, 5 Online Volunteers will be assigned per listed country. Online Volunteers will identify contacts or organizations, communities, and media that may be interested in collaborating with the UN Volunteers Programme in the mentioned countries. Online Volunteers who are familiar with the local culture of mentioned countries and knowledge of movements in civil society are strongly encouraged to apply as these are crucial aspects providing intelligence. Working closely with the Talent Acquisition Professional, the volunteers will be responsible for: 1. Identifying the leading civil society organizations in their assigned country by category; these include a) Humanitarian NGOs: which assist in migration or specialize in mobilizing newcomers, e.g. ACTED, The Peace Nexus, Red Crescent, etc. b) Advocacy NGOs: which aim to defend an opinion, a group of people, or a cause, such as Greenpeace, OXFAM3. c) Non-profit associations and other civil society groups. 2. Classifying the organizations listed using an Excel file that will be provided, volunteers will classify the organizations according to the category mentioned above, giving the location in the country, the mission, and a contact person. 3. Building mapping of newcomers into the assigned countries. The overall goal is to identify immigration flow from neighboring countries into the Central Asian nations.
