Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is based in the Joint Coordination Centre (JCC) in Istanbul, Türkiye. The JCC was established as part of the Initiative on the Safe Transportation of Grain and Foodstuffs from Ukrainian ports (the “Black Sea Grain Initiative” or BSGI), signed by the Russian Federation, Türkiye, Ukraine on 22 July 2022, to facilitate safe navigation for the export of grain and related foodstuffs and fertilizers from designated Ukrainian ports. The United Nations signed the BSGI as a witness, and the Parties request the assistance of the Secretary-General in its implementation, in furtherance of the humanitarian mission of the United Nations and subject to its authorities and mandates.

The Associate Information Management Officer reports directly to the Head of Reporting and Information Management Unit.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Associate Information Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

- Web and content management: support content publication on relevant web platforms, undertake quality control and ensure content is current, comprehensive, and follows relevant metadata standards, including measuring the performance of content; work with internal and external counterparts on related web platforms to facilitate information sharing about the BSGI. Maintains a catalog of operational and communication products.

- Maintain and update operational databases and spreadsheets, verify data records and ensure accuracy and data integrity. Support the consolidation and presentation of operational information to support analysis. Support technical staff in the development of templates and applications to facilitate the collection and presentation of context-specific operational data and information. Participate in the development and revision of data and design standards.

- Maps and other visuals: Support the production and updating of high-quality map products, accessible to all JCC participants and counterparts through local and/or online services. Maintain and share branding, style guides and other guidance for the JCC components and Headquarters-based Information Management Officers.

- Visualization: Assist in the production and updating of information products such as reports, charts and infographics by turning data into compelling digital features to convey messages and a storyline; develop advocacy materials in conjunction with public information staff, including posters, presentations, animations and other visual materials. Coordinate with other design and graphics consultants and counterparts to deliver multiple products.

- Engage with counterparts, and internal and external stakeholders, where required, to ensure that data is consistent with UN and national standards and practices, coordinated, and, wherever possible, integrated.

- Performs other related duties, as required.

Education

An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in information management, information systems, social sciences or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in information management, information systems, web and data management, GIS and mapping, data visualization, or other related area is required

Experience in coding for data management (for example, Python, R, JSON, APIs) experience is desirable

Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and GIS packages such as ESRI ArcMap is desirable

Experience in the UN Common System or other comparable international organizations is desirable

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; Fluency in Turkish is also required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice

• This position is temporarily available for a period of 6 months. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.

• While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post.

• Subject to the funding source of the position, the eligibility for this temporary job opening may be limited to candidates based at the duty station.

• These positions are National Professional positions and will be based in Istanbul. Candidates for the National Professional Officer category shall be of the nationality of the country where this position is located (limited to Turkish nationals).

• Appointment against this post is on a local basis.

• The contract will be administered by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on behalf of OCHA.

• Staff members of the United Nations common system organizations who will reach the mandatory age of separation or retirement within the duration of the current temporary need period are not eligible to apply.
