The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) is seeking to recruit a Research Analyst (Economics) in the Economics Department. The successful candidate will be based at CDB’s headquarters in St. Michael, Barbados.

  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

The Research Analyst (Economics) will be required to deliver timely, high-quality economic research on issues affecting the Bank’s BMCs and the global economy. He/she will engage in quantitative and qualitative economics research, statistical data and information aggregation, analysis, and economic modelling - with strong emphasis on the forecasting of economic activity (Gross Domestic Product), debt sustainability and fiscal operations within BMCs. The Research Analyst will also be required to prepare policy briefs, research papers, presentations, and speeches, and will also play a role in the assessment of the economic and social risks in CDB’s BMCs.

The responsibilities of the Research Analyst (Economics) include:

  1. Collecting and processing economic and statistical data using methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis and modelling.
  2. Compiling, analysing, and reporting data, applying models and statistical techniques to explain economic phenomena, and forecasting trends or patterns that could guide future decisions on important Bank matters, and provide policy advice.
  3. Maintaining and updating a database of select information for the real sector, government operations, balance of payments, labour market and currencies of CDB's BMCs.
  4. Preparing timely tabulations, statistical analyses, and graphical presentations for CDB’s publications produced by the Economics Department and as requested from other Departments.
  5. Formulating recommendations, policies or plans to solve economic problems.
  6. Working as part of the Economics team to develop and update macroeconomic models for the Department’s surveillance work.
  7. Assisting Economists on policy-based loans and country strategy papers.
  8. Presenting his/her own work and research findings and sharing and disseminating technical knowledge with internal and external audiences through, for example, technical reports or publication of articles.
  9. Providing background material and research that will assist the Director with policy advice to policymakers.
  10. Preparing communications from the Economics Department, including policy briefs, presentations, seminars, and speeches.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ideal candidates for this role must have:

 

       A Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics, or a related field;

       Two (2) years’ relevant work experience

       A strong understanding of development issues 

       Knowledge of methodologies in compiling, transforming and presenting data to conduct detailed research and analysis that would form the basis for addressing the root cause of economic problems facing CDB’s BMCs and the global economy.
