The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an inter-governmental organisation mandated with the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy. At present, IRENA has 169 Members (168 States and the European Union) that acceded to its Statute, and 15 additional States in the process of accession. IRENA supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation, a centre of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource, and financial knowledge on renewable energy. The Agency implements its mandate with the view of sustainable development, increased energy security, and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity.

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Advisor to the Director-General, the Associate Programme Officer, will perform the following duties:

 

  •  Support the work of the Office of the Director-General including: preparation of internal and external meetings, missions,speaking engagements and participation in conferences; preparation of briefing notes, talking points, speeches, substantive information and files; and preparation of supporting documents, as well as related correspondence;
  •  Assist in facilitating day-to-day matters related to work of the Office of the Director-General, including communicating internally throughout the Agency,and externally with offices of high level representatives of government, civil society and private sector;
  •  Draft analysis and research related to energy transition and energy security to support decision making processes and the identification of threads in global energy narrative.
  • Ensure timely follow-up to the DirectorGeneral’s meetings and missions, including preparation

of meeting minutes, and the effective dissemination of pertinentinformation to relevantparties;

  • Ensure the timeliness, accuracy and qualityof documents prepared;
  •  Provide substantive and administrative supportto the Director-General while on mission travel including preparation of meeting notes and summary of issues, as necessary.
  • Perform other dutiesas required.

 

1 IRENA provides similar ICSC benefits and entitlements, including rental subsidy, educationgrant (for school aged children), annual leave, health insurance, provident fund, etc. as would be applicable.

The post adjustment is a variable component that is adjusted periodically to reflect changes in the cost of living in a duty station. Post adjustment multiplier for Abu Dhabi duty stationis currently 73.4%, determined by the International Civil Service Commission and subject to change without prior notice.

Qualifications

 

Education: Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in international relations, political science, economics, finance, engineering or environmental studies. A first university degree in combination with at leaves two years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

 

Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in international organizations, think tanks, sustainable development or related field is required. Diplomatic experience or experience in interacting with the diplomatic community and International Organizations will be a preference. Experience in dealing with global energy policy related issues would be an asset.

 

Language: Excellent command of written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of other languages is desirable. Good drafting skills are essential.
