Who are we?

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has delivered humanitarian relief and development programming in Yemen since 2008. DRC focuses on supporting refugees, migrants, and people displaced by conflict and natural disasters, working especially in areas with access challenges. DRC engages in protection, emergency, WASH, and mine risk education programming among other sectors, and has hub offices in Sana'a, Aden, Hodeidah, as well as several other locations throughout Yemen.

In response to the critical and constantly evolving humanitarian situation in Yemen, DRC has assumed a leading role in coordinating response at IDP hosting sites. Working at IDP sites involves working together with international and local organizations in order to coordinate implementation of humanitarian activities, support community-based site management mechanisms, and monitor standards, needs, and gaps..

Overall purpose of the role:

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing relief and development services in Yemen since 2008. Using a right-based approaches, DRC has mainly focused on refugees, migrants and internally displaced People by conflict and natural disasters. Programs include WASH, protection, Food security/livelihoods and mine risks education, amongst others. DRC has hub offices in Sana’a, Aden, Hodeida and several sub-offices throughout Yemen.  In response to the humanitarian needs and the resulting increase of conflict affected population in Yemen, DRC is seeking qualified WASH Officer with civil engineering background to facilitate and coordinate WASH interventions Khokha, Hodeida Governorate.

Geographic scope: Country (Yemen):

DRC Yemen is seeking an experienced WASH Assistant – Site Technician to fill in this position preferring applicants from same targeted areas (Khokha, Hodeida Governorate).

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities: (in bullet points)
  • Serve as a local/resident’s technician in the above-mentioned district to monitor and supervise the daily rehabilitation for WASH facilities in the targeted sites till be completed by the contractors, and till handing over the sites to the local authorities.
  • Following-up the field works in all sites according to BoQs, specifications, drawings and the agreed timeframe and contact with the DRC WASH Engineer accordingly.
  • Ensure quality control on implementation and ensure that the provided materials are met the specifications and quality standards.
  • Documenting all implemented works and take notes/comments on daily basis.
  • Dealing duly with the contractors and away of doubts or any behavior that might to effect the quality of implementation.
  • Receiving/dealing with all the letters/requests that provided by the contractor, and deliver/discuss them with the DRC WASH Engineer.
  • Ensure quality control on implementation and ensure that the provided materials are met the specifications and quality standards.
  • Any other tasks by line manager.

 

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in water/environmental civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience in the design and implementation of WASH in development projects implemented by national/international NGOs/UN.
  • Knowledge of MS utilities (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team player.
  • Understanding of gender, protection and human rights.
  • Strong networking, interpersonal and presentation skills.

 •           Fluency in written and spoken Arabic.

•            Good in written and spoken English.

 

We offer

DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract ending on 31 July 2022, renewable based on both funding and performance.

Duty Station (Khokha )

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment. This position will be placed at Band (NMI), level (1) and will be reporting to WASH Team Leader .
