Field based position in Zahle, Lebanon.

Role Overview

The Project Officer is an entry-level developmental role designed to provide humanitarian experience to a new relief worker who wants to pursue and develop a career in the aid sector. The Project Officer will provide needed support to the Deputy Country Director and Project Managers in a variety of sectors and gain understanding of the different aspects of Project Management.

Project Overview

The Lebanon programme works across the country, including in the Bekaa Valley and Beirut Mount Lebanon. Medair supports both Syrian refugees and Lebanese communities with projects in Health, Mental Health, Shelter and GIS Mapping.

Key Activity Areas

Support to Project Management

  • Support the Project Managers, Deputy Country Director and Programme Funding Manager in the development of projects and the writing of new concept notes and proposals when required.
  • Support the team in gathering information and writing donor reports when required.
  • Contribute, shape and review assessments and reports, working with project staff to improve quality and develop capacity.
  • Support in analysis of data and ensure learning is incorporated into projects.
  • Support in monitoring and evaluation, including monitoring visits to field sites.
  • Provide input into the integration of beneficiary participation and accountability in all aspects of the project.
  • Contribute to the mainstreaming of gender, accountability and access for people with specific needs across our programmes.

 

External representation

  • Representation of Medair at coordination meetings and through relationships with external partners (e.g. community leaders, local and national government officials, UN agencies and other NGOs), with the objective of ensuring good cooperation and partnerships.

 

Other

  • Participate in activities related to different departments to actively learn about the full range of NGO work, e.g. the recruitment process, tender process, cash counts.
  • Cover aspects of roles such as Project Managers or Programme Funding Manager while they are on annual leave, as appropriate per the employee’s capacity.
  • Any other work as designated by the Project Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • University or College degree in a relevant field.
  • Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written).

Relief & Recovery Orientation Course (ROC)

What is the ROC and why is it required?

Experience

  • 2 years post-qualification professional experience.
  • Previous experience living or travelling in a development context.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel and/or Access or other database skills.
  • Good planning, assessment and analytical skills.
  • Good numerical, report writing and administration skills.
  • Problem solving ability.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Strong management skills.
  • Able to prioritise clearly and oversee multiple tasks.
  • Willingness to be stretched professionally, personally, and spiritually.
  • Interest in a long-term humanitarian career.
