Work Location

The incumbent can be in any UNRWA field of operations (Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria,
or West Bank)

Expected duration

• The duration of the consultancy is 6 to 11 months, extendable according to performance and availability of funds.
• Remuneration for this consultancy will depend on the qualifications and relevant experience as follows:
o Cluster A: $1,300.
o Cluster B: $1,600.
o Cluster C: $1,800.
• The incumbent can be in any UNRWA field of operations (Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, or West Bank).

Duties and Responsibilities

● Administration of Container Orchestration platforms based on Kubernetes and Openshift/OKD.
● Cloud Platform Administration.
● Operation of Application release orchestration platforms, including CI/CD orchestration.
● Infrastructure as Code technologies and related processes.
● Document and improve upon processes, procedures, and best practices to align with industry standards and customer needs
● Provide proactive recommendations on improvements.
● Analyze and identify key areas for automation and optimization, including improvements in system performance, processes, and deployments.
● Maintain and update/upgrade the container platforms.
● Coordinating maintenances with infrastructure and business groups
● Perform other duties as may be required.

Qualifications/special skills

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:
● A university degree from an accredited educational institution in information technology, information management, computer science, or other related disciplines;

EXPERIENCE:
● Experience in IT with significant exposure to AWS cloud services, primarily as per the following:
o Cluster A: A minimum of 2 years of experience.
o Cluster B: A minimum of 5 years of experience.
o Cluster C: A minimum of 7 years of experience.
● Relevant experience working with containers (Docker or any other container runtime)
● Experience with Cloud-Based container solutions (IaaS & PaaS) in AWS, Azure & GCP.
● Skilled in deploying, managing, and maintaining container orchestration technologies, including Kubernetes (required) and Openshift, both on-premises and cloud.
● Experience in the monitoring and advanced troubleshooting of container-based infrastructure.
● Linux & Virtualization Administration skills
● Scripting with Python, Bash, Go, .Net, or similar languages and source code control like Git.
● Experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Terraform and configuration management tooling like Ansible/Puppet/Chef.
● Build and operation CI/CD infrastructure pipelines.
● Ability to grasp complex concepts and a logical and analytical approach to solving problems.
● Knowledge of ITIL service management methodology
● Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks around changing priorities
● Ability to produce documentation for Agile delivery
● Application development background

LICENSES & CERTIFICATES:

● Certification in AWS or Azure (professional level preferred)

DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS:

● GCP Certification(s)
● ITIL certification
● PRINCE2 certification

● Effective customer-facing and oral/presentation skills;

UNRWA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United Nations
International Computing Center (UNICC) that aims to enhance livelihood and human
development opportunities to Palestine refugees in Gaza.

United Nations International Computing Center (UNICC) is a UN agency that provides IT
services to other UN agencies on a cost-recovery basis.

UNRWA Information Management and Technology Department (IMTD) is seeking Cloud Platform Administrator (AWS)
who is responsible for delivering Cloud Platform technical expertise within the Cloud Services Section.
The Cloud Team comprises Azure, AWS, and GCP Engineers providing Platform and Cloud Operational Support to internal and external UN clients.

The consultant will report administratively to the Head Information Technology Service Centre at Headquarter Gaza and report technically to United Nations International Computing Center
(UNICC).
