Background

The partner organisation, Christian Health Services of Papua New Guinea (CHSPNG), is a major actor in the health sector in Papua New Guinea. It provides an essential link between the Ministry of Health and the church health facilities. Currently, 27 churches and 6 associated members in 22 provinces belong to the association, which maintains more than 600 health facilities and 15 training centers. The CHSPNG office, based in Port Moresby, is one of the biggest partner organisations of Bread for the World with more than 30 employees. The CHSPNG’s primary goal is to act as the voice of the church's health care facilities while strategically and effectively lobbying the Papua New Guinean government for improved health, health systems and health services. In order to achieve this, an efficient internal management system as well as a strategically effective orientation of the work are essential. CHSPNG is looking for an international professional with relevant expertise to take over these tasks.

 

Job Scope

Within CHSPNG, you will contribute to strengthening the organization and to building lobby and advocacy in the health sector. Approaches, procedures and strategies, both internal and external with regard to church health work in Papua New Guinea, will be analyzed and improved.

In particular, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Analysing and identifying potential for institutional strengthening
  • Conceptual and process-oriented participation in management systems and guidelines
  • Contributing to the introduction of change processes by advising and assisting
  • Supporting the analysis and implementation of new health strategies for PNGCHS, e. g.  with respect to fulfilling the human right to health
  • Professional and strategic advising for an innovative health outreach of the churches

 

Profile

  • A relevant university degree, minimum Bachelor
  • Sound background in lobbying and management of non-profit organisations
  • Very good communication skills, for example in dealing with governmental agencies
  • Competency in English (both written and spoken)
  • Improvisational skills, enjoy learning from each other and resilience
  • An understanding of the healthcare sector would be a plus
  • Openness and motivation for social integration into the culture of Papua New Guinea

Citizenship of a Member State of the European Union or Switzerland is required.
