Context

In light of the global outbreak of COVID-19, UN Country Team Bangladesh has developed the Bangladesh Multisectoral Action Plan for COVID-19, a comprehensive plan for the United Nations and its partners to support the Government of Bangladesh (GoB)’s Health Emergency Response, and to complement GoB’s response to associated humanitarian and socio-economic recovery needs. The Multisectoral Action Plan consists of support to the 1) health emergency response (via the UN Country Preparedness and Response Plan); 2) parallel and emerging humanitarian and social protection needs (via the UN Humanitarian Coordination Task Team); and 3) post-pandemic socio-economic resilience and recovery. UN support to the GoB’s COVID-19 response is coordinated by the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO), under the leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator. The UNRCO supports the UN Resident Coordinator to provide leadership to the UN Country Team and the UN’s programming work in support of national priorities. The RC’s Office fulfils ten core coordination functions, namely strategic analysis and planning; oversight of the UN country programming cycle; representation of and support of UN Secretariat and UN agencies (incl. non-resident agencies); support to national coordination systems and processes; development and management of shared operational support services; crisis management preparedness and response; external communication and advocacy; human rights and development; joint resource mobilization and fund management; and general UNCT oversight and coordination. A multi-agency technical team of experts has been constituted to coordinate the UNCT’s multisectoral action plan. In order to provide coordination, support this technical team and facilitate the UNRCO’s crisis management preparedness and response coordination function with respect to COVID-19, increased capacity to support the UNCT is needed. Under the direct supervision of the Head of RCO, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: Substantive and logistical support to the Local Consultative Group meetings and processes including the planned 2022 Bangladesh Development Forum; Secretarial and research support to the Economic Relations Division (ERD)-led Least Developed Country Graduation Task Team; Support to rollout and implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2022-2026 including support to formulation of joint programmes; Support to UN data-related work including support to addressing SDG data gaps; Support to reporting on UNDAF 2017-2021 and external communication on joint UN work; Support to the Humanitarian Country Task Team Secretariat for preparedness, response and recovery from climate related disasters;
