Background Information - Job-specific

The Security Guard reports directly to the Security Assistant or delegate. He/she is responsible for executing duties related to the physical security of and  ensuring compliance with security policies and procedures at the UN complex. He/she is expected to take a proactive approach in preventing security/safety related incidents and to follow operational instructions given by the Security Assistant or delegate. The Security Guard performs patrols, man the Security Control Center and executes post orders, both indoor and outdoor, at the UN complex. He/she is expected to respond to alarms and incidents in accordance with the instructions and guidelines given in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the respective post. The Security Guard works 8, 10 or 12-hour shifts, but must be prepared to work irregular hours including night shifts over longer periods. The Security Guard will at times be expected to perform tasks other than the regular duties. He/she will also be expected to work independently and make informed decisions in accordance with established safety and security procedures.

Functional Responsibilities

The duties of the Security Guard include, but are not limited to:  

  • Perform indoor and outdoor duties on site as per SOP’s of the designated post.

  • Document all incidents related to UN personnel, property or assets in the Daily Activity Report (DAR) and ensure secure storage of any such documentation.

  • Take a proactive approach in ensuring the continuous security and safety of the UN Complex. 

  • Report damages to facilities and failures to the respective department, authority. .

  • Assist employees, guests and contractors on site in complying with security policies including ensuring the enforcement of access procedures.

  • Assist in case of emergencies and evacuations, and provide first aid if necessary. 

  • Undergo necessary training activities.

  • Handle mail and deliveries according to procedures.

  • Ensure continuous operation of the CCTV and access control systems.

  • Monitor all available alarm and surveillance systems and take immediate and appropriate action when needed.

  • Process and Issue ID cards to staff, contractors, etc. 

  • Report any security incident to Security management. 

  • Perform any other tasks delegated by Security management.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

A Secondary degree and mandatory AMU-course for Security Officers or relevant UN, police, military or Fire Department training is required. 

Experience:

A minimum 2 years of relevant experience with the UN, a security company, the police, the military or the Fire Services is required.

Language requirement:

Excellent skills in both English & Danish (oral and written).

Legal requirements:

Provision of clear criminal records (i.e. no penal code violations). Records must be provided to department management on an annual basis, or when requested (within one week from the date of request).

Contract duration: Open-ended, subject to organizational requirements, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
