The Secretariat of the WTO is seeking to fill a Document Technologies Officer position, in the Language and Technology Support Section of the Languages and Documentation Services Division (LDSD).

General Functions

Under the supervision of the Chief, Language and Technology Section (LTS), which is responsible for implementing computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and developing and maintaining corpus based databases and tools the incumbent will be required to perform the following specific duties:

1.         Develop and code in ASP.Net to maintain several inhouse web solutions for translators;

2.         Maintain SQL Server database and improve Full Text Search queries'

3.         Develop and code in VB.NET to maintain database indexing functionalities and automations;

4.         Participate in AI related developments such as NMT and speech-to-text;

5.       Develop and code in VSTO to maintain a WTO specific addin in Word, when needed.

6.         Perform other tasks within the Section to contribute to the Section's work plan.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Advanced University degree, preferably in computer science, information technology, computational linguistics. Alternatively, a basic University degree with demonstrated professional experience of SQL database development in language processing.

Knowledge and Skills:

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven ability to develop and code in ASP.Net
  • Practical knowledge gained through experience working with: Windows server, .Net technologies, MS SQL Server, MS Office, machine translation and mark-up languages;
  • Project management skills
  • Thorough practical and theoretical understanding of CAT and machine translation tools, especially SDL products;
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to visualize and gather information, articulate, analyse and solve complex problems, and make appropriate recommendations;
  • Knowledge of the following would be an advantage: Linux RedHat, Lucene/Solr, Javascript;

Behavioural Skills:

  • Very good organizational and time-management skills and ability to work independently;
  • Aptitude for building relationships with colleagues;
  • capacity to understand and communicate information in a clear way; and
  • ability to operate as a member of an Agile team environment while working autonomously to achieve individual objectives.

Work Experience:

Minimum five years' relevant experience delivering IT solutions. Experience working in a translation environment would be an asset.

Languages:

Proficiency in either English or French (at a level corresponding or equivalent to a minimum of C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)). Fluency in both languages would be an advantage.
