ABOUT THE ROLE

The Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S) is currently seeking a Research and Policy Associate, Corrupt Money Flows to join the Research and Knowledge Team.

As part of its work as a member of the Financial Transparency Coalition, TI-S will work with other coalition partners and in particular with the Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA) to implement activities aimed at generating greater evidence on the impact of illicit financial flows and tax abuse across Africa; identifying key destination countries where international cooperation should be strengthened; exposing inadequacies in legal and institutional frameworks, and raising awareness of citizens and the private sector on the impact of illicit financial flows, amongst others.

OVERVIEW OF KEY DIMENSIONS

Role Purpose: Research and administrative assistance to support the implementation of TI’s work as part of the Financial Transparency Coalition with a focus on corrupt money flows.

Reporting Line: Head of Research and Knowledge

Salary Band: salary according to TI-S internal salary structure; for this position corresponding to band PF1 a salary starting EUR 33,500.00 gross per year depending on relevant experience

Starting Date: as soon as possible

Contract Duration: Currently we can offer an employment contract limited for a duration of 18 months.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE ROLE

Based in the Research and Knowledge Team, the Research and Policy Associate, Corrupt Money Flows will:

  • Support the coordination of work and information flow between the Research and Knowledge Team and other internal teams (e.g. Policy and Advocacy, Global Movement, Fundraising, Communications, Technology), ensuring process integrity and effective cross-team collaboration
  • Support the Research and Knowledge Team on the delivery of specific products and activities in the area of corrupt money flows (such as e.g. knowledge generation and exchanges, peer to peer capacity building activities, knowledge dissemination) through background research, quantitative/qualitative data analysis, fact checking, editing, benchmarking, etc.
  • Respond to requests for information on corrupt money flows, researching in order to provide sufficient responses or escalating where needed
  • Conduct research and prepare research outputs for training materials, events and networks and their respective policy outputs in the area of corrupt money flows
  • Support in the organisation of meetings and events (e.g. knowledge sharing and capacity building events), including preparing documentation before and after events, including logistical organisation of activities and peer exchanges
  • Support the communication with and coordination of national chapters and partner organisations (in particular the Tax Justice Network Africa)
  • Provide input into reports, publications, communications materials, web content, etc. on corrupt money flows
  • Contribute to the overall functioning of the Research and Knowledge Team providing proactive and ad hoc support

CANDIDATE PROFILE

In order to succeed in this role, candidates will need to meet the following:

  • University degree in a relevant field of the social sciences, such as political science, sociology, economics, public administration or related, with an academic emphasis on research
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience - preferably with an International NGO or International Organisation - working on administrative support, particularly in research departments, or another relevant field
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or interest in good governance and corruption related issues and advocacy, with a particular focus on illicit financial flows a strong advantage
  • Strong analytical skills coupled with solid writing, editing and communication skills
  • Experience in organising events with diverse international partners required
  • Experience with donor funded projects in the civil society field an asset
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to effectively manage priorities in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Professional language proficiency in English; additional languages, in particular French and/or Spanish, an advantage
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently, particularly at distance communication
  • Good MS Office skills, in particular MS Excel
  • Commitment to the values and principles of Transparency International
