Job Overview

The Volunteer Coordinator is as a member of the Resource Development Department and works closely with the Senior Development Manager to increase community awareness of and support for the IRC in Atlanta. The coordinator is responsible for collaborating with IRC staff to determine volunteer, intern and community support needs, ensures the IRC in Atlanta has an adequate number of interns and volunteers to support programs and services, and represents the IRC to community partners, educational institutions, and corporate and community sponsors. The coordinator will recruit, screen, train, and supervise volunteers and interns; provide on-going support and guidance; and manage volunteer information in two central database systems. The coordinator will develop trauma-informed training materials to best prepare volunteers, interns, and other community supporters for their work with refugees, immigrants and asylees. This position will supervise a NDMV AmeriCorps position that will support volunteer coordinator and community outreach efforts.

 

Major Responsibilities

Internship Coordination

  • Ensure the IRC maintains an active, effective, professionally managed intern program
  • Liaise with program managers and other staff members on intern opportunities for their respective programs and ensure assignment descriptions align with staff and client needs
  • Organize three recruitment cycles (fall, spring, summer) and manage office-wide application and interview process
  • Oversee onboarding and exit process for all interns. This includes processing background checks, setting up and closing IRC accounts, leading general orientation sessions, and managing other situations as needed.
  • Maintain and expand relationships with colleges and universities, particularly those with paid internship programs   

Volunteer Coordination

  • Coordinate with staff to determine volunteer needs and maintain accurate and up-to-date job descriptions for all volunteer opportunities
  • Implement outreach activities to attract and recruit new volunteers from colleges/universities, corporate volunteer programs and skilled community and/or civil society groups
  • Identify, develop, and schedule group volunteer or one-day individual volunteer opportunities.
  • Coordinate regular information sessions for potential volunteers
  • Conduct training and provide ongoing supervision for all accepted volunteers.
  • Maintain individual files on all interns and volunteers, record and report all intern/volunteer time, and ensure all required documentation is complete, accurate and on file.
  • Update and analyze volunteer/donor history and maintain strong outcomes in alignment with annual Resource Development goals

·Supervise volunteer and community outreach interns or other volunteers as needed.

 

Community Outreach

·Represent IRC at local meetings, seminars, forums, and other community outreach opportunities as needed.

·Solicit opportunities to speak publicly about the work of IRC and actively recruit community involvement.

·Conduct outreach, networking activities, and other advertising to recruit and educate potential donors, interns, volunteers, and partners as needed.

·Other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements

Work ExperienceMinimum of 3 years of related experience.

Education Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college preferred.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies

  • Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a key team member.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize and to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Well organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural setting.
  • Self-direction and initiative, when needed, to take the lead and to follow through to completion.

Language SkillsFluent in English, both spoken and written.

 

Working Environment

  • Combination of remote and onsite work in a standard office environment. As the transition away from virtual, remote work evolves, fulltime onsite will be required. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.  Position will require using own transportation within service delivery area. Mileage reimbursement available.
