ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) is seeking applications for funding for a Resilience Food Security Activity in Mozambique (Fiscal Year 2022). The main goal of the intervention is to improve nutrition outcomes for children under 2 in Zambezia.

World Food Programme (WFP) is recruiting for a Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion Lead for an anticipated USAID-funded project that will work at the individual, household, community and institutional levels to address the underlying causes of food insecurity, malnutrition and strengthen transformative opportunities. This includes a focus on improving food access and incomes through agriculture and other livelihoods initiatives; enhancing ecosystem services through natural resources management; combating under-nutrition, especially for children under 2 and pregnant and lactating women; and reducing and mitigating disaster impact through early warning and community capacity building and preparedness activities.

JOB PURPOSE

The GYSI Lead will ensure that the social dimensions of food security and community resilience are effectively addressed across all activity components and at all levels throughout the entire award period. Attention to social dynamics—in particular, gender and youth integration—is critical to realizing BHA intended outcomes. These responsibilities include:

• Leading the collection, analysis, and utilization of information from a broad range of sources;
• Fostering commitment and build capacity among activity staff and in-country actors to ensure gender and youth integration and empowerment.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with additional years of experience in a relevant academic area—e.g., a social science discipline.

Experience:    

• 5 years post post-graduation professional experience
• Three years of field experience at the community level
• An in-depth understanding of gender, age, and other locally significant socio-cultural factors in the context of food security programming
• Experience with designing gender-responsive and gender-transformative approaches to improving food security, household negotiation, or agricultural leadership in the household
• Aware of advanced approaches in GYSI and evidence-based approaches to tackling key barriers to changes in behaviour and disparities in health outcomes.
• Experience addressing GYSI factors across sectors
• Skills in participatory learning and action and facilitating collaborative problem-solving

Languages:    Fluency (level C) in English language and Portuguese at a minimum,

Elomwe language speakers have an added advantage for National candidates

• Excellent oral and written communication skills 
• Mentoring and facilitation skills
• The ability to network and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, and field experience in low-resource environments
• Knowledge of USAID policies and procedures
