Job Description

CERN’s Knowledge Transfer (KT) Group is in charge of identifying and realising opportunities for CERN's know-how to be applied in fields other than particle physics, in order to maximize the impact of CERN technologies and expertise on society (in particular industry).

Under the supervision of the Aerospace, Energy and Environmental Applications Coordinator, you will join the Business Development (BD) Section, where you will:

• Provide support to the HFM (High Field Magnet) R&D Program, in particular the Work Package Applications for Science and Society, by gathering and analyzing collective intelligence (market surveys), performing innovation landscape and value proposition reports, organizing dissemination workshops, reaching out to industry and funding agencies to enable short and long term HFM technology applications;
• Assess specific application areas related to Medical Applications, Energy and Environment to identify technology trends and synergies with CERN key areas of expertise;
• Take responsibility for the dissemination of a number of CERN technologies to external partners;
• Contribute to setting up and implementing R&D projects, including proposals definition and structuring, liaison with internal and external stakeholders, costing and Intellectual Property management, reporting activities and production of deliverables.

Qualifications

For this position within the Programme, you will need to meet the following requirements:

Eligibility

• Be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State; 
• You have a PhD, or at least 4 years’ relevant experience since the completion of your MSc (or the equivalent diploma which gives access to doctoral programmes) in the field of engineering or sciences, and in both cases a maximum limit of 10 years’ experience.

Essential skills and experience

• Knowledge and experience of at least one technical field related to CERN hardware and/or software technologies and know-how;
• Knowledge and experience of at least one application area related to Energy and Environment and to Medical Application;
• Ability to grasp the essential information about complex technologies and to understand their applicability to fields outside particle physics, better yet if in the energy and environment domain;
• Experience with managing technical and administrative follow-up of projects would be an asset;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, in particular MS Excel;
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Please note that CERN Staff members are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship.

Additional Information

CERN would very much like to benefit from your expertise, commitment and passion.  In return, we offer:

• An employment contract for between six months (minimum) up to a maximum of 36 months. A regular fellowship duration is 24 months.
• A stipend ranging from 7,201 to 8,178 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
• Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
• Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva.
• 2.5 days of paid leave per month.
