Job Description

CERN’s Knowledge Transfer (KT) Group is in charge of identifying and realising opportunities for CERN's know-how to be applied in fields other than particle physics, in order to maximize the impact of CERN technologies and expertise on society (in particular industry). Healthcare is an application domain in which CERN has a long and successful track record, and represents one of the most relevant knowledge transfer opportunities in terms of potential impact on society.

You will join the Medical Applications (MA) Strategy Support team of the KT Group, where you will:

• Take responsibility for the dissemination of a number of CERN technologies toward healthcare and MedTech by liaising with CERN scientists and inventors to understand the technology and its potential, proposing the most appropriate dissemination strategy, promoting the technology to external partners;
• Provide support for setting up R&D projects, including costing and Intellectual Property management;
• Provide support to manage CERN’s budget for Medical Applications, collect and keep updated the necessary information to track the progress and impact of projects supported by this budget;
• Directly follow-up the progress of a number of medical applications-related projects by liaising with the technical project leaders;
• Act as Scientific Secretary of the CERN Medical Applications Project Forum, which gathers CERN experts working on medical applications of CERN technologies.

Qualifications

Eligibility criteria

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State;
• You have a PhD, or at least 4 years’ relevant experience since the completion of your MSc (or the equivalent diploma which gives access to doctoral programmes in the field of engineering, computer science, or physics related to particle accelerators or detectors or other related field;

Essential skills and experience

• Knowledge and experience of at least one technical field related to CERN hardware and/or software technologies and know-how;
• Ability to grasp the essential information about complex technologies and to understand their applicability to fields outside particle physics, better yet if in the medical domain;
• Ability to follow complex projects with many stakeholders internally and externally;
• Excellent communication and organisational skills;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, in particular MS Excel;
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)

Desired skills and experience

• Good level of French;
• Experience in one or more of the following fields would be an asset: innovation management, knowledge and technology promotion, management of Intellectual Property in the framework of licensing activities and collaborative R&D, software licensing;
• Experience with managing administrative and financial follow-up of projects would be an asset;
• Please note that CERN Staff members are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship.

In return, CERN will provide you with:

• An employment contract for between six months (minimum) up to a maximum of 36 months.
• A stipend ranging from 7,201 to 8,178 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
• Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
• Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva.
• 2.5 days of paid leave per month.
