The Berghof Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization supporting people in conflict in their efforts to achieve sustainable peace through conflict transformation and peacebuilding. Headquartered in Berlin, the organization is run by a diverse team and works with local partners around the world.

Overview of the position:

Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week)

Starting date: 01.01.2022

Duration: limited contract for 15 months

Location: Berlin, Germany

Department & reporting line: Europe Unit, reporting to the Head of Unit

Your main tasks:

  • Within the project you are the specialist for the individual conflict constellation and you support, coordinate and mentor local coordinators/partners in reconciliation process
  • The successful implementation of the activities are your every-day focus
  • You provide specific expertise on local multi-stakeholder dialogue and insider mediation processes
  • To ensure constant development of the area of work you draft concept notes, project proposals incl. its activities and ensure that a consolidated plan for the entire project cycle incl. financial calculations is in place
  • You ensure a low friction communication with partners/stakeholders/participants/donors
  • Internally you will also be part of decision-taking processes as of project staffing or consultancy cooperations, furthermore -  we expect this role to coordinate and cooperate with inhouse-crosscutting roles
  • Regular travel (also to high risk areas) to Azerbaijan and Georgia 

Your knowledge, experience & skills: 

  • You hold a Master degree (accred. Universities) within relevant field such as Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, International Relations or similar
  • You have at least 3 years relevant work experience (e.g. full-time project management, dialogue in the context of Azerbaijan - Armenia conflict, history and memory work)
  • For the role your verbal and written language skills in Azerbaijani and Armenian are key to the success as well as fluent English (at least C1-level)
  • Furthermore, you have experience in remote communication & cooperation 
  • Professional skills in the use of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Teams) complete your profile

Additional skills:

  • Strong ability to work with perseverance as part of a team as well as independently 
  • Curiosity and strong empathetic/intercultural skills
  • Ability to work under time-pressure
  • Citizenship of a member state of the EU or valid residence status in the EU are a clear asset
