Organizational Setting

 

The Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology (NEFW) comprises the Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section, the Waste Technology Section, the Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation Section and the Research Reactor Section. The Division seeks to support Member States in building their capacity to access technologies, to share good practices and to develop safe and effective approaches across all aspects of research reactors, nuclear fuel cycle, decommissioning, radioactive waste management and environmental remediation.


The Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section (NFCMS) assists interested Member States in the development of safe, environmentally friendly, economically viable, proliferation-resistant and sustainable fuel cycle options and it encourages information exchange on the exploration, mining and processing of uranium and thorium, on the design, manufacturing and performance of nuclear fuels, on the management of spent fuel, and on the development of advanced and innovative nuclear fuels and fuel cycles.
 

 

Main Purpose

 

The consultant will provide technical expertise to the Technical Lead of the Spent Fuel Management Team (SFM Team) for\: topical meetings and webinars' preparation and implementation, e-Learning development and technical information analysis when reviewing IAEA publications. The consultant will also monitor the drafting process of several IAEA publications on spent fuel management, liaising with contributing external experts.

 

Functions / Key Results Expected

 

In the field of the backend of the fuel cycle, the Consultant will\:

  • Gather technical information from partners participating in the third Research Coordination Meeting (RCM) of the CRP T13015 on the "Management of Severely Damaged Fuel and Corium", facilitating the communication among partners, , structuring the content of the Final Report of the CRP and monitoring its review process until publication;
  • Compile, analyse and structure the information provided by the CRP partners participating in the first RCM of the CRP T13018 on "Spent Fuel Characterization";
  • Beta test and consolidate the technical content of new e-learning modules on the Management of Spent Fuel;
  • Proof-check the Russian translation of the e-Learning modules on Spent Fuel Management before their posting on the IAEA website;
  • Monitor the drafting process of several Nuclear Energy Series (NES) publications (mainly the "Guide on Spent Fuel Storage Options and Systems" and NES on "Maintaining Flexibility in Spent Fuel Management to Accommodate Strategic Changes in Fuel Cycles Policies") and compile the comments received from the reviewers to finalize their publication process;
  • Prepare presentations and technical documents for Spent Fuel Management Team meetings and training programmes under the close supervision of the SFM Technical Lead.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in Chemistry or Radiochemistry. Advanced degree in Chemistry or Radiochemistry an asset.
  • Minimum of three years of work experience in managing projects relating to the Nuclear Fuel Cycle.
  • Experience in structuring and delivering technical lectures for young professionals, especially for the development on e-learning, as well literature review and information compilation.
  • Experience in characterization and assessment of long-term behaviour of fuel debris is a strong asset.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English and Russian. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French and Spanish) is an asset.

 

Remuneration

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 150, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
