UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a Fundraising Appeals Officer – Individual Contractor position within the Marketing & Emergencies section - Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP).

Organisational context

 

The Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) sits within UNHCR's Division of External Relations (DER) and is responsible for mobilizing resources from the private sector for refugees. UNHCR has developed an ambitious Private Sector Fundraising Strategy which focuses on both Individual Giving and Private Sector Partnerships and identifies priority markets and regions.

Multi-country campaigns are one of the key drivers of income growth for UNHCR’s Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP). This area of work includes short-term fundraising appeals designed to accelerate private sector funding from individuals for a specific cause or theme or in response to external events. Appeals will respond to topical events that resonate with donors and supporters such as the Covid pandemic, news coverage of refugee issues or global movements; offering a significant opportunity to increase funds and supporter engagement that is currently not fully realized.

 

 

The position

 

The fundraising appeals officer is required to develop and establish this new income driver. The contractor will work within the PSP campaigns team to ensure the ability to respond quickly as appeal opportunities arise and ensure that they are relevant, timely, creative and have donor appeal.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Develop the systems, processes and propositions for the team to successfully run reactive appeals at short notice. This will include both donor acquisition and donor development;

  • Consult and engage markets strategically for appeals and support them throughout the

    active period of any live appeal;

  • Align appeals with existing campaigns where possible;

  • Work with members of GCS to amplify any live appeal through media, social media, via

    influencers and Goodwill Ambassadors and on the website;

  • Develop appeals to support Individual Giving (IG) and Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH)

    strategic objectives such as conversion to regular giving and legacy fundraising;

  • Monitoring and evaluation of all appeal results including working with the Digital

    Engagement Section on tracking and optimizing results;

  • Donor impact reporting;

  • Provide fundraising support on multi-country campaigns as required.

    Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required
    The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience below:

  • A minimum of 6 years of individual giving fundraising or marketing experience (With a Bachelor’s degree) / 5 years of experience (with a Master’s degree)

  • Strong fundraising copy writing skills

  • Experience of managing multi-channel marketing appeals and campaigns, ideally in the

    humanitarian sector

  • Experience of managing cross-functional project groups

  • Experience of managing multiple projects with multiple stakeholders and meeting deadlines

  • Excellent command of English

  • Sound understanding and experience of the requirements and success factors of digital

    marketing

  • Ability to work and collaborate with colleagues of different cultural and educational backgrounds

     

 

  • Conditions

    It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).
