Background
Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. In addition, other at risk individuals and families are served through employment services, job readiness training, adult education and immigration services.

Internship Summary
The Women’s Empowerment intern will develop and lead workshops to promote women’s health and encourage individuals to become self-sufficient, engagement members of the community. This position will also advocate for clients rights and needs.  S/he may also help with administrative tasks. Must be comfortable working with clients from a variety of backgrounds.

Activities
Assist various programs with identifying gaps in services related to Gender Equity
Develop and lead workshops on self-confidence, gender issues, economic empowerment and women’s health in a culturally-appropriate manner
Meet with clients to create self-sufficiency plans; support clients as they work through their plan
Advocate on behalf of/with clients who identify as female to address barriers
Research partnerships and opportunities in local area to raise visibility and invite engagement

Training

In-depth training will be provided for interns to understand IRC programming and the various needs of clients accessing IRC services. A high-level of confidentiality is required when working with IRC clients.
