Background:

OSCE field operations are the front line of the OSCE’s engagement on the ground, supporting host authorities in fulfilling OSCE commitments and implementing a comprehensive approach to security. The OSCE Mission to Skopje is the Organization's longest-serving field operation working on inter-ethnic relations, early warning, the rule of law, democratic governance and transnational threats and organized crime.


Tasks and Responsibilities:

The Media Assistant is part of the Communication and Media Relations Unit (CMRU), working with all Mission departments on press and public information activities. The regular duties and responsibilities relate to: media affairs, media monitoring and reporting, and assistance in project preparation and implementation.

More specifically, under the direct supervision of the Chief, Communication and Media Relations Unit, the Media Assistant will be responsible for: 

  1. Monitoring domestic and international media on coverage of Mission’s activities and produces daily internal media summaries in English language for the senior staff of the Mission;
  2. Liaising on regular basis with journalists about Mission’s events and drafting Mission’s answers to media inquiries;
  3. Assisting in drafting press releases, media advisories, news items, feature stories and input for the OSCE website and the Mission’s social media channels, including assisting in the organization and coverage of public events; 
  4. Acting as official  photographer for the Mission, taking photographs at important events to illustrate Mission’s activities;
  5. Translating from English into local languages and vice versa when necessary;
  6. Attending meetings, workshops, seminars, conferences related to media issues; 
  7. Assisting in drafting project proposals, including developing budgetary projections, proposing partners and/or participants, as well as co-coordinating and executing project activities;
  8. Monitoring the implementation of the projects, including the monitoring of the implementing partners and  keeping record of all interactions and ensuring that the Mission and the project manager is kept abreast of all important issues;
  9. Completing unit responsibilities for procurement of goods and services, including development or oversight of specifications, submitting inputs to internal procurement system and following up with general services;
  10. Electronically filing and archiving of all reports, project proposals, public information products and correspondence; 
  11. Performing other duties as assigned.
     

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Citizenship of or permanent residence in the Republic of North Macedonia;
  • Completed secondary education supplemented by formal training in journalism, media, public relations and/or project management;
  • Minimum four (4) years working experience in media, public relations or any another related area; established ability to draft news-related documents and other reader-friendly and well-formatted documents as required;
  • Established experience as photographer;
  • Computer literacy with practical experience in Microsoft packages and Photoshop;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and in local languages;
  • Ability to work with people of different nationalities, ethnicities, religions and cultural backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities. 
     

Remuneration Package:

Monthly remuneration, subject to social security deductions, is approximately EUR 1,360.00. 

Social benefits will include participation in the Cigna medical insurance and the OSCE Provident Fund. 

Appointments are normally made at step 1 of the applicable OSCE salary scale. At the discretion of the appointing authority a higher step may be approved up to a maximum of step 3 subject to specific conditions.
