Purpose of the Job

The purpose of the Protection Assistant is to assist in the day-to-day implementation of assigned Protection activities as delegated by the Camp Management Coordinator and CM/Protection Officer based in Badghis according to the strategic and policy frameworks.

In particular, the Protection Assistant will be supporting, under the direct supervision of the CM/Protection officer and the overall guidance of the Camp Management Coordinator, the close implementation and monitoring of field activities focused on protection monitoring, referrals, and Individual Protection Assistance (IPA). The post holder will be spending most of his/her weekly time in the field locations with the team and in the office when reporting and drafting are required.

Role and responsibilities
Generic responsibilities

  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines
  • Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to the plan of action
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  • Ensure proper filing of documents
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function
  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities, community representatives, and other key stakeholders
  • Assist the field team with close monitoring of project activities and ensure they are implemented based on agreed upon plans
  • Ensure timely collection and sharing of information
  • Assist with administration and logistic arrangements required for implementation and monitoring of activities
  • Development of holistic and needs-based programmes, including cash-based interventions

Specific responsibilities

  • Responsible for the implementation of protection monitoring (general and specific to COVID-19).
  • Drafting intake form of IPAs as per the existing case management tools and SoPs in NRC, then reporting to CM/Protection officer for further steps.
  • Overall responsible for recording cases with specific needs to the existing and available services in Badghis province and follow-up cases with BNFs.
  • Assist the field team with community outreach and engagement with local authorities, community representatives, and other relevant stakeholders based on project implementation priorities as communicated by management
  • Field activities including protection monitoring (HHs level protection monitoring and conduction of FGDs) and IPA (Individual Protection Assistance).
  • Making professional communication in terms of referral with other stakeholders and actors in the field level.
  • Ensure the inclusion of cash-based interventions in country and area-based strategies and their implementation across and within NRC’s core competencies
  • Provide an enabling environment for the implementation of cash-based interventions, including multi-purpose cash assistance, emergency cash responses.
  • Any other related tasks requested by the supervisor

Qualification

  • 1-2 years of previous experience working in the humanitarian sector and specific into protection intervention is preferable
  • At least 1-2 years of previous experience working in Protection or Protection-related projects is an advantage.
  • Understanding of the humanitarian principles and strong commitment in ensuring their observation in daily field activities
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of English, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of cash-based interventions and market-based program
  • Good command of Dari and Pashto, both written and verbal
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the local context, including socio-cultural, political, security, and humanitarian situation
