Job Overview: 
The purpose of the WASH technical assistant position is to liaise and work closely with WASH department in implementing the WASH projects. The Technical assistant is expected to be able to deliver hygiene promotion trainings as well as attending in various type of distributions. It is also noteworthy that the incumbent is expected to have sound Engineering knowledge and be able to operate surveying tools and equipment such as tablets, GPS, Level, Transit, Theodolites and etc.
As a part of WASH Technical Assistant’s responsibilities He/she will be asked to monitor construction activities such as construction of Septic Tanks, Latrines, Menstruation Hygiene rooms and etc.

1.  Role and responsibilities:

Generic responsibilities (max 10): 

1.    Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
2.    Assist a range of support with the implementation of the CC portfolio according to plan of action
3.    Implements independently procedures and activities within own function or core competency as delegated
4.    Responsible for organizing and delivery of tasks in line with priorities and standards
5.    Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work in which technical assistance and support is being provided, in order to be most effective in supporting the team
6.    Use initiative in day to day problem solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities and standards for the area of work
7.    Development of holistic and needs based programmes, including cash-based interventions and marked based programmes

Specific responsibilities: 

1)    Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
2)    Ensure proper filing of documents 
3)    Promote and share ideas for improvement in your area of expertise.
4)    Have full understanding of all programs’ goals, objectives, implementation plan and expected result / output.
5)    Previous Experience in latrine construction/upgrading.
6)    Experience in developing water networks and water supply systems is an asset.
7)    Participate in NRC staff and seminars and training, when scheduled
8)    Operate field equipment. 
9)    Work closely with all shelter and WASH projects stakeholders. 
10)    Keeping on track recording of training data and program documents.
8.    Coordinate closely his or her activities with WASH officer
9.    Assist WASH Technical Officer/PM on planning, organizing, facilitating and monitoring of projects. 
10.    Be willing to travel throughout the districts and other provinces, this is primarily a field position and will require physical activity in a range of demanding natural

environments and conditions: 
11.    Ensure the inclusion of cash-based interventions and marked based programmes in country and area-based strategies and their implementation across and within NRC’s core competencies
12.    Provide an enabling environment for the implementation of cash-based interventions, including multi-purpose cash assistance, emergency cash responses
13.    Any others tasks assigned by supervisors /WASH officer.

By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:
•    Only directly with supervisor 

Competencies:

  1. 1 to 3 years’ experience from working in WASH program in humanitarian/development context 
  2. Knowledge and experience within a relevant administration, craft or technical field and 
  3. Ideally a relevant vocational qualification.
  4. Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  5. Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  6. Some knowledge of English 
  7. Knowledge of cash-based interventions and market based programmes

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience: 

  1. Education: Bachelor Degree in one of engineering majors.
  2. Demonstrated experience in conducting rapid emergency assessments in projects.
  3. Experience in working in insecure/conflict environments.
  4. Manage time effectively, prioritizing tasks and able to work to deadlines.
  5. Good cultural, social, political and security knowledge of the area.
  6. Proven communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with strong experience.
  7. Working knowledge of English language
  8. Computer skills.
  9.  Work confidently within a group.
