Overview of position
Our client in Mali Aviation operates the authorized fleet of 30 manned aircraft and 19 unmanned aircraft (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System RPAS/UAVs) from various countries of civil air carriers (under Long Term Air Charter Agreements) and Troop-Contributing Countries (TCC) of Military Aviation Units (under Letter of Assist (LOA’s)) in support of our client’s mandate approved by the UN Security Council over the Area of Operations (AO) and Area of Interest (AI).

The air assets assigned to our client are subject to strict control and close coordination in order to ensure their most efficient and responsive utilization. Owing to the significant size of Mali, absence of road (wet season) and rail infrastructure, air operations are the heavily depended on, primary mode of support for the mission and sites through the utilization of mentioned air assets. To support Mission Concept of Operations (detailed in the Military and MSD Concepts) Military tactical, combat surveillance operations, CASEVAC/MEDEVAC response and urgent around clock air operational requirements beyond normal working hours and seven (7) days a week the Aviation Section is deployed in various locations within six (6) Air Regions and one Office within Sectors East, West and North.1

Our client’s Aviation Section HQ is composed of the Office of Chief Aviation Officer (CAVO) and five (5) units: the Air Operations Unit (including Mission Air Operations Centre (MAOC)), the Airfields & Air Terminals Unit (AATU), the Technical Compliance Unit (TCU), the Quality Assurance & Standardization Unit (QASU) and the Resource Planning and Performance Control Unit (RPPCU).

Furthermore, Aviation Section is extended with aviation offices in six (6) Air Regions: Bamako, Mopti, Timbuktu (Tombouctou), Gao including Menaka Office, Kidal, and Tessalit.
 
Role objectives
  • Provision of Emergency, Crash and Rescue/ Fire Fighting services within Gao and Menaka Airport in hazardous atmosphere with extremely high temperatures.
  • Use self-contained breathing apparatus, fire hose, and firefighting truck and being familiar with fire-ground tactics and operations.
  • Ensure that all fire safety equipment is in place and ready for urgent use.
  • Prepare firefighting equipment’s check list.
  • Inspect airport facilities to including ramp for potential fire hazards.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly inspections of fire extinguishers and firefighting equipment’s.
  • Perform Emergency, Crash and Rescue activities in response to aircraft fire emergency or aircraft crash as per established Emergency Response procedures and assist the passenger’s in the event of aircraft evacuation.
  • Perform all types of duties related to the fire and safety services.
  • Ability to use all types of radios and speak clearly.
  • Perform other duties related to the Emergency, Crash and Rescue/Fire Fighting activities.

Key competencies Education
• High School diploma or Certificate, technical training in firefighting or from a fire Brigade School/Training Centre plus Certification or technical training as Aviation Fire Fighter is required.
• Training as fire fighter vehicle operator, in fire and rescue, dangerous good and basic first aid is essential.
• Holder of a valid Driving license for mechanical handling equipment is also essential.

Experience
• A minimum of three (3) years of working experience related to Aviation Firefighting.
• Experience in Aviation Firefighting techniques and Aviation firefighting vehicles.
Team management
Team management is not part of this role.
