  • Plan and provide effective implementation of project activities related to provision of climate services and managing climate risks under the World Bank funded Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA);
  • Plan, Coordinate and execute implementation of field activities such as field data collection, conduct household surveys and focus group discussions;
  • Design and participate in implementation of digital platforms in delivering extension advisories to farmers and extension staff in alignment with existing weather forecasts;
  • Lead in the facilitation of capacity building activities by supporting development of training modules and coordination of training programs;
  • Play a leading role in dissemination of climate information to end-users and their support agents, conducting follow up checks as a part of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E);
  • Manage the project in Kenya and ensure effective collaboration with KMD, KALRO, County governments and other value chain actors;
  • Conduct literature reviews, data collection and data analysis operations and assist in writing and manuscript preparation of various reports and publications;
  • Plan and execute field travels to implement project activities in Kitui, Makueni and Taita Taveta counties;
  • Support logistical and other relevant tasks as assigned by work supervisors.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in agriculture with specialization in agronomy, soil science, natural resource management or related discipline with experience in systems related research;
  • At least 2 years’ experience preferably in agro-climatology or natural resource management;
  • Strong knowledge of the application of agricultural innovations, findings from analysis and crop modelling;
  • Good understanding and knowledge of cropping and farming systems of semi-arid agro-ecologies in Kenya;
  • Demonstrated capabilities in project implementation including supervision of project-based personnel, conducting field operations in collaboration with partners and reporting results;
  • Support and participation in preparing scientific publications;
  • Support logistical activities and undertake other relevant tasks as assigned by work supervisors;
  • Experience in working with International, non-governmental or governmental organizations;
  • Field work and engagement with farmer groups will be an added advantage;
  • Fluency in English (both spoken and written) and working knowledge of Kiswahili.
